OK I give up, why do aftermarket intake manufacturers recommend the use of Fel-Pro #1250 intake gaskets ?? Why cant I just use the regular Fel-Pro gasket that the parts stores carry ??? The intake is a proffesional products typhoon. The car is a '92 GT. I think I remember the edelbrocks recommending the same gasket...

You can use the stock replacement complete set - Fel Pro #MS93334. You won't be able to use the upper-to-lower gasket, but so what. The kit comes with lower intake-to-head gaskets that have runners that are 1.15"wx1.90" tall, really nice silicone rubber end seals (vs the cork junk), a distributor O-ring. Best part is you can get the set anywhere for about $15.

I believe the parts store replacement gaskets are actually smaller than the 1250, and FWIW ive been using the cork gaskets for years and have NEVER had a problem, i make sure the block is completely clean before sticking the self adhesive cork gaskets down then put a very small amount of RTV on top of the cork ends. IMHO i would only use the 1250 there IS a size difference

The Printoseal type gaskets (1250,1262,etc) are better than the stock replacement type. The main reason to go with RTV on the end seals is mostly because when you start deviating from stock heads and intakes, you may see a change in the gap between the intake and the block at the end seals. A cork or rubber seal may not be able to compensate for the change and will either try to squeeze out or just be too short and not seal. I always use about a 1/4" bead of RTV Ultra Black right before I set the intake down. That way it conforms to the correct gap. Never had a leak.

Yes there is but the MS93334 runners are 1.11" x 1.95" which is bigger than many stock aftermarket lower runners when not ported.

The silicone rubber seals in the kit are .160" thick and have side rails molded in that keep the seal from moving when the intake is set down on it.

The printo-seal is a paper gasket with rubber traces attached. The "blue stripe" in the kit are metal with a nice coating on the entire gasket on both sides.

The kit is a nice option, has more parts in it and is half the cost of the 1250 kit. I use it on my Explorer because I think the quality is much better and I just get an upper-to-lower seperately if I need to replace it.
