the part of the intake manifold that the heat core pipe attaches to cracked off. happened close to home, pushed it back in. now i need to get a new one.. but i use it as a daily driver. so i need to kill the heat core temporarily. folks on another forum i am on say to cap the intake manifold at the break and cap the hose. will this harm the heat core? even if i keep the heat off?

You want to by pass the heater core till you get a chance to fix the tube going to it? If so, then you will be ok. Tons of people by pass them. If you can try to cap off the ends of the core so you don't get anything taking up shop there while your not using it.

You can temp cap it with a bolt that BARELY fits in the hose and a hose clamp. Depending on ur cap, there is only 16psi or so on the cooling system. My motor is from an explorer so it has one extra hose that comes off the lower intake(coolant) that I have capped with a bolt and clamp. Its a ton of work for me to do just to swap the coolant tube.
