IM BUILDING MY 92 MUSTANG AND PUTTING GT40 HEADS, TFS1 CAM, 1.7RR. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR THE GUY BEFORE ME INSTALL A TRICK FLOW UPPER INTAKE ONLY FOR SOME REASON. IM WONDING WOULD I BE BETTER OFF SELLING THAT AND JUST PUTTING AN EXPLORER UPPER AND LOWER ON, OR USEING THE TRICKFLOW UPPER WITH EXPLORER LOWER. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT. AND I DO BELEIVE ITS THE SMALLEST TRICK FLOW INTAKE, THE STREET ONE.

Its only an upper? The TFS upper intake will not mount to the stock lower. The TFS has rectangular runners and the stock has oval runners. Pull some part numbers and compare them to the TFS intakes.

i would keep the upper definitely b/c buying a cobra intake wont flow nearly as much as the TFS.. if the lower is infact stock (witch i dont thin will bolt on to the TFS upper) get rid of that and get a lower TFS off ebay, theyre not too expensive, cheaper than a GT40.....

KEEP THE TFS FOR SURE!! YOU'LL GET WAY BETTER GAINS AFTER THE HEAD SWAP....

ADD
24# INJECTORS/70MM MASS AIR
EXPLORER THROTTLE BODY
SN95 FUEL RAILS
=
NICE!!! MAYBE 60HP?

:nice:

HAVENT TRYED TO GET PART NUMBERS OFF THE LOWER MANIFOLD BUT IT LOOKS STOCK AND DOSNT LOOK LIKE THE INTAKE HAS BEEN OFF IN A WHILE. PLUS THE PREVIOUS OWNER SAID UPPER ONLY AND HE HAD TO TAKE IT TO A SHOP CAUSE HE COULDNT DO IT HIMSELF. SO I GUESS ILL CHECK FOR NUMBERS THANKS. AND I ALREADY GOT 24# INJECTORS AND HEADERS, WHAT SIZE IS THE EXPLORER THROTTLE BODY.

You're not going to put one on the other.

didnt no that, thanks for the pictures. i just dont understand why you can buy the upper by itself if it doesnt fit the stock intake. i guess ill just have to go take a look. thanks for the info.

the stock explore TB is 65mm and all you have to do is swap the linkage out back to the fox style, its pretty easy.

and as far as the intake information, you can deff tell if what you got is stock b/c the firing order is on the lower and you see a ford stamp on it... alot of people hack these cars up and do half ass stuff, im sure you know that by now.
if you check ebay out youll find TONS of stuff at decent prices.. you can buy uppers and lowers as a set or individually. if you dont end up keeping that TFS ill buy it!!!

i just got some GT40's in my garage im saving up to sent to a shop to be milled and a lil bit of work so im tryin to stack up some $$$... im gonna do with a TFS street intake in the future. a buddy of mine has an 89 302 and has the TFS intake w/ stock explorer 65mm and he has over 380 to the wheels.. the TFS being the most expensive upgrade he has....

CHECKED LAST NIGHT AND COULDNT FIND A PART NUMBER. THE INTAKE IS PRETTY COVERED IN GREASE AND OIL, BUT ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE IT SAYS MADE IN THE US, AND I CAN SEE CYLINDER NUMBERS MARKED ON THE RUNNERS.

I beleive the OEM intakes are made in Mexico, so i don't think it would said MADE in US

Take pics, as it would help.

Any OEM style lower will have the engineering part number right behind the distributor

Uhhhh, not really. Cobra and GT40 lowers have them on the driver's side between the last 2 runners. Any HO lower will have it behind the distributor.

^^^^^^!!

here are some pics of both

check out the runner shape and where the temps sensors are.. also around the distributor.... they look kind of the same at a glance but take a good look..hope it helps!

I have a Street Heat on my car. The lower looks like the pic posted above (Track heat lower). My upper was a really sweet black until I changed it. Is this similar to your intake?...

Unless you got a kit cobra/gt40 intake after 1996/7....then it comes with an explorer lower and the part number behind the dizzy

Prob more of those out there than actual oem 93-95 lowers

you can buy the upper only because the tfs street heat and track heat intakes use the same tfs lower with a different uppers, and are interchangeable/upgradable. they will NOT bolt onto a stock/cobra/gt40/holley/eddelbrock/anything else, only the 1 lower. and the tfs lower pictured above looks like an r-model, its similar to the normal tfs lower (same basic design, but bigger), but it also wont take the street/track heat uppers.
