GT40 or Cobra... Holley System Max then Edelbrock. If you make a head change then Trickflow.....

it's impossible to suggest an intake without knowing what kind of heads you're running.

the typhoon is based off the edelbrock rpm intake, and would do nothing other than hurt you unless you're running heads that can handle it.

If you're running gt40/p heads, e7 heads then a $150 explorer intake is your best bet. Since you didn't mention heads, i'm assuming you still have stock heads.

Spending $500+ on a slick intake will break the banks and not get you the HP you need. Upgrade heads and cam and intake at the same time if you can

I'M RUNNING THE EDEL. PERF. RPM WITH STOCK 95 GT HEADS JUST PORT MATCHED AND A F303 CAM GOT EVERY BOLT ON BUT ALUM. HEADS RUNS GREAT NO ISSUES WITH INTAKE. IT ACTUALLY RUNS BETTER THAN THE EXPLORER I HAD ON THE CAR TO BEGIN WITH WENT FROM IN THE 1/8 MILE 8.91 TO AN 8.75 WITH THAT CHANGE AND ONLY THAT CHANGE.

Have ran the trickflow street , cobra and holley systemax 2 intakes all on stock 90, 91 and currently on my 88 and all have given power increase over stock..

Have ran the trickflow street, cobra and holley systemax 2 intakes all on cars with stock motors/heads and all have shown power over the stock intake combo.. I'd say for a stock car used for the the street go with a explorer/cobra or trickflow intake combo.. me personally the trickflow street heat felt the best to me

THE EXPLORER INTAKE IS A COBRA WITH OUT THE EMISSION PORTS BECAUSE THE EXPLORER USES A DIFF. EGR SET UP.

YEARS ? I THINK 94-97

Speaking from my own experience only with this intake question...

I got my Explorer intake off of a 96. Had to drill and tap for two sensors (that was easy), and I did a mild port job based on the instructions from TMoss. If you don't have the tools or time/patience, go to Tom! He is the man.

I can tell you for sure that a ported explorer intake rocks and does not kill your bottom end like some of the others my buddies have/had on their cars. Two have already done the swap to an Explorer intake after riding in mine and reading what Tom has researched. I picked it up for $150.

Good luck with the decision.

IF you decide to go with the Explorer. You may have to drill out for the ACT & ECT, both use a 3/8" NPT (national pipe thread). Drill out the holes with a 9/16 drill bit. Go slow and use pipe threading oil to keep the heat down.

I tried to find the info TMoss used to have posted but it is gone. I have the instructions that he had posted, but since he pulled them down, I will respect his reason for not wanting them out there. I would just ping him to do the work.

I did mine and double and triple checked them using fluid volume to make sure that I had the runner volume for each cylinder the same. Probably caveman testing but I don't have a flow meter in my garage like the pro's.

I spoke with TMoss a little while ago, and he said that he wasn't paying for the website. His original provider shut down, and since TMoss didn't want to pay for the site, it shut down too. I don't think he took it down for any private reason.

Also, read through this before you make any decisions on the Explorer intake:

http://forums.stangnet.com/551505-freakys-official-explorer-gt-40-intake-thread-56k-dont-bother.html

I have an Explorer, and I like it, but I have to say that by the time I bought it, cleaned it, painted it, fabricated vacuum lines for it, bought the taps for the sensor and vacuum lines for it, bought fasteners for it, bought gaskets for it, and everything I'm forgetting, I was probably 50$ shy of a brand new Trick Flow. Also keep in mind that the Explorer does not fit items like the intake plaque or the "salt and pepper shakers" perfectly. Just my .02$.

My webmaster/Site Host lost his business - he kept my site up for free to provide info to the Mustang community. I offered to pay as business fell off, but he lost so many paying clients he had to shut it down despite my offer.

All the above mentioned things are included in the work done to an intake by a pro and that is why it's often cheaper to buy one from pro, because they have all the tools and skills to do everything correctly and get all the details right. The Explorer does fit a stock bolt cover but only uses two screws and it's not hard to cut a detent under the cover plate to accept the salt & pepper mount.
