intake valley (oil galley) 3/4" cup plug leaking - use sealant/RTV?

I took off my intake and ran the oil pump with the drill and discovered that the 3/4" cup plug in the back of the block is leaking (shown in the pic circled in green). It's letting about as much oil out as one of the pushrods. Should I replace it, seal it, or leave it alone?

Should I use sealant/RTV? How should it be applied?

This is on my new short block assy. This is actually the second cup plug that I put in. The first I used a bit of RTV and put it in. Then got worried that I shouldn't have used the RTV, so I drilled it and pryed it out and installed a new one dry. Mistake?

How can I fix this? If remove and replace, how can I remove the old one without getting drill shavings into the oil galley? What's the proper method to install a new one?

Try another one, use a socket to mash it back down that goes on the outside of the cap. Just the same size as the hole to be exacy. This way you dont mushroom. I would use some high temp RTV, and let set up for an hour. Make sure you clean all the sufaces with laquer thinner, or even some ispropyl alcohol from your medicine cabinet. Must be oil free!

Thanks for the info. How much RTV and where? Edge of plug?

Any ideas on getting the old one out? The other side of that cap feeds the lifters with oil, so I'd hate to get shavings in there drilling it out.

Well you can usually take a flat head and if you hit the edge it will flip side ways. You can then just rip it up out of the hole. It is your call on how much to use. Some people dont even seal with RTV.

You think that I mushroomed the one in there now and caused it to leak by tapping it in in the middle of it rather than on the outside edge?
