i know everyone says gears are a great first mod, which they are. but how does it compare to a new intake manifold and 65, or 70 mm tb? i was looking at this kit http://www.blueovalindustries.com/products.php?pid=99011379&openparent=9902062&dealer=blueoval

so that and gears + installation would be roughly the same. i know gears are like 40-50 hp, and you feel it instantly, but how does it compare to that? and i know ppl have had fitment issues eith typhoon, but im willing to spend the time to clean up the extra metal.

the gears would be more like adding 50lbft of torque rather than hp cuz you don't feel hp. the intake will add tq but not as much as the gears multiply, and will add that tq starting at mid range(depending on model) whereas the gears multiply the tq at all rpms. gears gears gears!!!

i didnt think gears got you ANY horsepower... The intake should show minimal gains, unless you are using it to top off a H/C combo, than your H/C/I would def gain some horspower... but not just the intake on a stock engine, supposedly you'll gain about 10-15 or somethin... Gears, make it feel alot faster and go faster, but not by adding horseys

i know it doesnt add any, but it feels like it does. im surprised an intake doesnt add more than that. i know the heads are restrictive but damn, 15 hp from a ~450 dollar investment? i guess gears are the way to go.

On a stock motor, i wouldn't bother with an intake. The lower is restrictive, but you'd probably lose some torque with a big intake on a stock set of heads.

Go with the gears!

Get the gears first. And if your not going to change heads, get your stock lower intake ported - the lower intake flows ~50 cfm less than the upper intake and you can get ~10+ HP out of the lower work or a GT40/Cobra/Explorer. Porting the lower should ccost less than $150 with shipping and new intakes or used GT40/Cobra/Explorer usually cost $250 or more.
