Intake VS

With the AFR 185s....Stealth..or even a vic jr would probably do well, the cam and carb tuning will play a bigger role in the streetability. Have you chosen a cam yet? For off the shelf cams the Comp XE274HR is a sweetheart . Can you be more specific in your application, gears, transmission, intended use and expectations?

Lets see more specific.....

My gearing out back is a 3.73 posi and my tranny is a t-5. The T-5 will only be in there until/if I break it then it will be a G-Force t-5.

This car will be my night cruiser/strip car. It wont be my daily driver. As for the cam, I am going to have a custom cam made once I figure out my intake set-up. I want the car to be pretty aggressive but still streetable. Thats about it .... =)

Since it wont be a daily driver, I would consider a mild single plane to go with big heads like the 185s. I have a Weiand X-Celerator that will go on my roller 302 in the '68 and I had one on my previous '65 289 also. The bottom end was a little soft, but by no means unstreetable and the high rpm power came on like a 2-stroke bike.

I can vouch for the Comp Cams XE-274HR. I run that on a set of Edelbrock Performer 5.0 heads (1.90/160) with 1.6 R/R, Performer RPM Intake and a Holley 600dp. 2400 stall, AOD w/3.80's. It moves. Havent been to the strip yet but she gets up and goes!

If youre going with a custom cam from someone like Ed Curtis or Buddy Rawls its probably in your best interest to talk your application over with the cam designer.. You should buy an intake to match the cam rather than vice versa.

Still want the car to be streetable and im not sure how much room single planes take up nor really know anything about them at all.

Vic Jr on a 66 with NO carb spacer will clear with a 2.5" high filter or less.... barely. Not sure about manners on a 302 but on a 347 it is no problem whatsoever.

Throw on a carb spacer of any size and it won't fit...

Stroke that 302 and THEN use that COMP XE274HR. Seems to go real good with my AFR185's.

PS - by tomorrow I won't be able to say MY AFR's or my Stroker or my Vic JR or my coupe......SOLD.........

I am not gonna stroke my motor this time around washMo. Ive decided to just get a roller 302 and build one of those without stroking. When I gain more knowledge and know-how then I will go for the stroker ;-)

as was stated, best you decide on teh cam first, then get an intake to compliment it. same with headers. even though most of your horsepower is in the heads, for the most part, the cam is the brains of the operation, and everything needs to work with the cam.

He could use a Weiand Xcelerator or a Victor Jr. those will net him the most power. Problem is with the 185's on a 302 he will have to scream higher to really tap into the power of the heads. AFR 165's would probably fit better, but the 185's will give him room to grow in the future which seems like a better choice to me, that is why I got victor jr.'s for my car. So if you ask me get a single plane and be ready to spin that engine up.
