Intake?

I have a 95 vert.
What is the bottle neck in these cars? Is it the upper plenum or the lower intake? The reason I ask is cause I'm shooting for 300 N/A flywheel hp which I've been told is obtainable even without a cam swap. I was thinking about going with a Cobra or aftermarket setup, but I have read on here about a guy named Tom Moss that does porting of the lower intake real cheap. Will a ported lower work as well as a Cobra?
 
There is very little difference between the Cobra lower and the tmoss lower...and the tmoss would be cheaper...

Do a search for his name and send him a PM and he'll get you fixed up...

The lower is the bottleneck between it and the upper...
 
Why not just buy a used cobra or explorer intake and get that ported? If you're looking for 300hp you're going to need a nice floring intake, heads, and exhaust. There are people on here with H/C/I's are making a little over 300hp and under 300rwhp.

I'd ditch the stock intake and buy an Edelbrock Performer 5.0 or buy a used Cobra/Explorer and have that ported to reach your goal

So explorer and cobra intakes are the same? Also thinking about going with a set of P-heads, good or bad idea? I need a set of headers anyway, and I think Ford motorsport makes them for the P's. Or should I just save my money and go with a set of Roush or Trick Flow? Basicly what I'm looking for guys is a strong fun street car that will be bracket raced once in a while on the weekends.

I re-dyno'd here recently swapping from a tmoss stock lower to his Cobra lower...I netted 10 ponies in the deal...Im at 302FWHP...as said...the stock lower is pretty damn good for the power range your shooting for...I run a Steeda 19 cam though...

Some of you guys need your eyes checked. He said 300 FLYWHEEL hp. He does NOT need heads and he does NOT need to port an aftermarket intake.

Heres what WILL work since my friend had what you want. He had a cobra intake, c&l maf, gay shorty headers and full exhaust and pulleys. He did 245rwhp in his sn95. Something like that will do what you want BUT use longtubes and get a bigger TB. Whatever size the inlet of your manifold is, run that size TB :cool:

:stupid: Full exhaust, Intake manifold, TB, Pulleys. Except on the long tubes, Their was a thread that shorty's make more HP according to 5.0 magazine. Long tubes are more for just the sound of the car.

I don't "some of you guys" saying anything about 300rwhp and not referring to the flywheel horsepower...1105's post was kind of confusing and can see where you got that from...but he is the only one I see...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with shorty headers...they can flow just as well as longtubes can...as long as the shortys don't become a restriction...and I can't see where they would with out more air being forced through it along with a h/c/i combo (referring to supercharger)...

245rwhp is not 300bhp...though it makes it much closer...

Bigger is not always better

To the original poster...get a 65mm TB
 
Long tubes help with scavenging, its not about how much they flow. My roomate gained 8hp switching to long tubes, and he gained alot in the midrange.

Check out the 5L Ford dyno tests book, it says pretty much the same thing.

Been there/done that. LT's are WAY better. I dont race peak #'s on the dyno, but check out the under the curve gains on LT equipped cars vs shortys. Its awesome to say the least. I've seen a few dynos with that swap. I've also seen track times with LT swaps on stock and h/c/i cars. LT's own, end of story.

I just happen to have one for sale, a MINT accufab 65mm with egr :D Buy mine :D You should match the TB to the inlet of the aftermarket intake, but at that power level its probably not a big deal. There was a dude in another thread I was posting in maybe a month ago and posted his gains by going with a 70mm TB and then to a 75mm TB on his bolt on 94/95 cobra. He GAINED 9hp over stock with a 70mm and then he GAINED 4hp with the 75mm. Anyway, buy my 65mm accufab :D

My friend (again in the 90 gt) had BBK longtubes on his car...supposed 347 (ran with my bolt-on, full exhaust, 373'd car)...and he had some sort of rusty (other than stock headers...possibly the ford racing headers?)...and he gained...no difference in time but finished .5mph faster...so in this example and many I have seen...longtubes are NOT way better...harder to install for the HP you gain...Shorty's are just fine...

Actually it is closer to 290hp...and I did do the math :nice:

I know for a fact you would gain horsepower with those "bigger sizes"...but I'm looking for E.T. gains here...not peak horsepower numbers...
