Howdy all,

I'm about to install a SEFI system into my early Bronco, and my question is this. Is there a particular intake system that caters more to making low end torque rather than high RPM power? My Bronco seldom gets over 3,500 RPM, and makes most of it's power under 2,500. This suits me perfectly since it is a 4x4 and sees a fair bit of trail time. I am getting a system out of a crown vic, and I think I have all the information on making it fire in the correct order with the cam that I have, so now how can I maximize my torque? Thoughts and ideas, let's have 'em!

your best bet is probably with the 97 efi explorer intake.

The Crown Vic's were never deisgned to turn the engine very fast, so the stock setup will probably be OK. The Explorer is a good part, but a little pricey, about $250. A 5.0 Mustang 86-93 manifold is also a good choice, maybe a little better airflow than the Crown Vic, and cheap to come by as well.

Is an Explorer intake taller than the ones on a Mustang or other car? I know that the ones from pickups and other Broncos are much too tall, and cutting a hole in the hood to clear an intake isn't really a desirable option.

I am of course going with a K&N or similar type of cone filter, is there anything else that will improve the performance without affecting reliability?

Right now I have an RV cam, Jasper longblock crate engine, Heddmann headers, true duals 2-1/2", Mallory ignition, (presently) Edelbrock carb, Edelbrock Performer intake. I will often times be miles away from civilization, so reliability is key, as is simplicity, I can't carry my entire tool collection on the trail.
