I have a 88 lx that the guy i bought it from said it had an
interceptor motor put in it. I was just wondering what the differences were between it and the stock 5.0 and how to identify the engine as a true interceptor.

P.S. I blew the head gasket in it and it is sucking down antifreeze. i am parting it out with the auto transmission 126,000 miles?
Anyone interested in either please respond. I am located in Connecticut. :D

The SSP (Special Service Package) Police Mustangs came equipped with the same 5.0 engine as any other Mustang. Some of the differences between SSP and regular Mustangs were reinforced floor pans, oil coolers, 130/135 amp alternator, heavy duty hoses and convenience group delete.

I have never heard of a Interceptor 5.0 engine.

There isnt a way to tell the difference, because there isnt one. The block is idential to the average HO block. The differences are like stated above with a few other things that i cant think of right off hand.

unfortunately there isnt much SSP left on my motor in the form of hoses and the alternator, nor the heavy duty clutch fan. The motor on the other hand is still untouched and unopened to my knowledge and still pounds like it's brand new.
