Hey guys, My name is Mike. I'm on Stang #5. It's a 96 GT that I'm in the process of turning into a full-time dragster (for almost 2 years now :( )

Anyhoo, I was pricing out solid lifters, and like many 4.6 parts, I found it a little hard to swallow so much of a price tag for what I was getting. Fox Lake, though they do GREAT work, wants $400 for a set of adjustable lifter slugs. I did a little of my own quoting, since I'm in the fabricaion business, and I was able to get a set made for a bit under what F.L. wanted - black-oxide coated and all. I have yet to run the engine, but the lifters installed perfectly. 3 parts - lifter base, lifter post, and jam-nut. The base and post are 1020 CRS with black oxide coating, and the jam nut is Stainless. These parts are simple - not rocket science. I have used Solid Lifters in MANY 2.3 setups, Chev (I know... ugh) 2.2 s-10 setups, and a couple 302's.

My question is: Who would be GENUINELY interested in a set? No need to remove the cams - I can provide a crow's-foot wrench if needed for a small price. I'm trying to gage interest before I get any quantity quoted and produced. I will sell these on Egay for those that want a secure place to do business (understandable, especially since I have no history here). Really, all I'm doing now is trying to figure out how many I should make. These work for the 96-04 heads, and all 4V heads. Not sure on the new 05+ 3V heads - somebody tell me (please) if you know.

Thanks guys!

Mike

Excellent First Post!

Thanks ;)

I've been on Delphi Forums for about 4 years, so I at least know what a first impression can do for ya :)

Really though, I'll be honest. I'm lookin to make a few extra bux to get the dragster done. I also know how much of a PITA it's been to get my project going due to cost... I figured - win-win. I make a few bux, people get great parts on the cheap... This was at least one part I knew I could offer competetively, and maybe get a few extra $$$ to get my fuel pump ;)

Ain't lookin to make a living doing this, just looking to make a hobby come to life LOL!!!

2nd street speed shop in perkasie pa sells these and they aren't cheap...they do claim a 20rwhp gain though. Try over on Mod Depot...a few more guys with hardcore modulars who may be interested.

Fox Lake claims 35 HP, and I would ASSume that is at the crank. Really, solid lifters is solid lifters... If they hold up, and set the rocker at the height you need, one really can't out-perform the other... Maybe if you impregnated a ball for the roller tip, but even then, we're talking MAYBE a HP... But still doubtfull. Biggest gain in power comes from lack of inconsistency/valve float at high RPM'S.

I'll check out what you suggested though. Thanks ;)

Maybe you can do a pre/post lifter dyno when you get there. Im interseted to see the effects.

Ain't got that kinda time/money for a simple mod... Wish I did tho...

I'm sure Fox Lake can provide the before/after with their setup. All the same rigamirole... Same part, different setups, yada yada... For high RPM applications, and not worrying about a little valve knock (it's the nature of the beast with solid rollers), solids are the best investment. They don't squish and weaken when you "accidentally" hit 7k a couple times... Very consistent valvetrain. I'm all about the flowpath (cams, valves, lifters, etc.). My 4.6 SOHC is 14.2:1 CR (alcohol), with SHM valvetrain, cams, custom cam bearings, bronze guides, my own solid lifters, decked .060, hand ported by this dip$hit right here, yada... Pretty badass setup - if I can get the ancilliary crap in place LOL!!!!
