I recently discovered that when I step on the brakes of my 65 Vert the dash lights come on. Everything else seems to work as expected. Has anyone else encountered this? What might the problem be?
It's not "creative wiring" because not problem has not been there for the last 6 years since the car was re-wired (Painless). Yes, the brake lights work as expected.
Hi
Well, I guess it's a matter of digging through the ckt(s) to see how the two are related. Did the PO add the Painless wiring? Perhaps, you can contact them for a diagram.
Good Luck!
rsev216,
Good find! The first time I had an 1157 buld go shorted on me, it had the same symptoms as you had with the additional issues of my right turn signal making the dash lights and all parking lights flash on and off AND when the dash lights were properly on, with the headlight switch, it dimmly lit the turn signal indicator lights. At the time, I thought my wiring harness was pooched and was thrilled to find a bad/shorted bulb. I cleaned all sockets and replaced all 1157's, problem cured.
Congrats,
Gene
Problem solved! The wiring harness connector that slides over the bulb housing was not making good contact thus creating a high resistance ground. This resulted in current bleeding through the other filaments in the 1157 bulb and turning on the dash lights.
