Interesting reply from CHP on quality issue.

10,000 hard miles over a 2-3 year span before an issue and you think it is the builder's fault? Now you know why people who run their cars hard usually do tear downs to check the internals.

Just my $0.02, YMMV, you asked for opinions, my opinion may not be what you want to hear.

i dont see you expected a warrenty after so long?
it would be nice but very unlikely.
unless they advertise it, and even then you have to follow rules, going out and beating on it probably isnt one of them.
i will go with PA because they have a lifetime warrenty. for an engine I was thinking about building my own or short block. CHP was one of the choices since they have dart blocks.

From reading both sides, I think you both handled it poorly. I'm not sure what you wanted from your intial email, but I didn't get a constructive vibe from it at all. His initial response is equally nonconstructive and does indicate that they probably need a proper and trained "customer service" department as opposed to the whoever/whatever response they're currently using.

Now, someone kill this thread or move it to the Talk section.

....sigh...

although i'm as anti-chp as they get, i don't think you handled the situation professionaly. instead of explaining the problem and asking for a solution, you start off by bashing them before they could tell you if they would work with you.

I am reminded of an old episode of Married with Children called the Godfather when Al wanted the city to fix a pothole in his drive way and the streetlight over it. Here is the letter he wrote to the city:

Dear maggots and foul bureaucrats. I pay taxes! You grafting pigs use my money to wine and dine cheap bimbos, never once thinking to share them with the rest of us. So please fix the pothole in my driveway, and the street light above it, and for the thousandth time please... annul my marriage.

Signed,

a voter

The city was less than helpful after that.

Thanks for all the insight. It was posted as a reality check more than anything else. I guess I am getting tried of getting defective parts (or poorly manufactured parts) and the manufacture's not wanting to help take care of the issue. Yes, I could of handled it better but that was the second issue with them that I would call a manufacturing defect. I did not see this as a warrenty issue because a good quality roller cam should never look like this even after 100k miles. I guess I thought they would volunteer to issue a "UPS call tag" and I would in turn pack it up and give it to them to learn from their mistake, but I was not prepared for the response. Lesson learned on my side anyway!

Eother way, constant problems suck to no end. Regardless of how it was handled on either end or what ever, it sucks to pay money to correct someone elses fault. No it shouldn't be warrantied after 3 years. But I may completely shoot myself in the foot here, and I will condem you all if it happens, but I haven't had a major problem with my motor in 5 years. You think high dollar parts would be able to take some kind of beating.

3 years down the line, an engine that youv'e built yourself using their "kit", driven probably very hard ;).... you expect them to fix it and take the blame?

not sure how it works on your side of the pond, but here they would laugh at you.
