The white is needing help. But, VHT white is way too white. We’re now exploring degrees of grey and black. We’ll let you know how it goes.

When I did mine I had a paint store mix up the color based on the interior ford color code. It worked well and I was happy with the color tone.

Regardless, though, trying to match original panels is difficult due to age and fade.

I don’t think we’re looking for exact factory color tones. Just a nice looking combo. This car has been so raped in its poor life anyway. No need to be authentic.

So, how about opinions or suggestions?

The VHT interior dye's are what we'll be using since its performance test on the rear seat went well. We ditched the idea of white because its too antiseptic and no way do we want to hassle with trying to keep it clean. We have decided on trying some combination of VHT Light Gray Satin, Charcoal Gray Satin and Black Satin. The dash, console and center armrest are good enough as is so were not painting it. We were thinking Charcoal Gray for the seats, Light Gray for the door panels and rear side panels, Black Satin for the speaker covers and other various small trim components. Any opinions on color options?

Here is a link to the VHT stuff so you can see the colors available >> http://www.vhtpaint.com/specialty/vht-vinyl-dye

We need to replace the carpet too so I guess this is our choice unless there are good reasons to get something else.

Here's the starting point. I know it looks pretty good in pictures but in bright light with naked eye, it's pretty rough with staining. Upholstery is gennerally in good condition. It's just that the white color with aging and staining makes it look not so good.

Can you show some pictures of what your painted interior looks like?

It’s not all back together but I’ll link to that area in the progress thread...

Edit: Interior color is opal gray. The original interior was very neglected. We sprayed this with ppg dbi interior paint out of an HVLP gun. 3 coats as I recall...

When I had my white vert, I ended up having a paint shop mix up the color because the VHT was too white as well.

We made some progress on the convertible interior this weekend. It’s stripped out and parts ready for cleaning and prep. I sampled 4 shades of grey on the back seat. Two are from VHT and two from Duplicolor. The VHT is both the lightest and darkest. I think we’re deciding on the Duplicolor which provides some contrast but not drastically.

Super late to the part it appears but check out these guys: http://www.ebaystores.com/seatsrestore/About-Us

I've gotten 'shoe polish' from them (for lack of a better description) that I've used to make seats in two different cars come back to life.

The pad is an absorbent pad. It's not the first one I've seen hide down there but they don't appear in every car.

If you are going to drive it, gray carpet requires more upkeep than black. You might as well get a couple of cans of Tough Stuff now to keep it from looking dingy.

Before fitting new carpet I have something to deal with. There had been a hydraulic leak from the convertible top line. It saturated the tar like compound that’s under the seat area. That compound is now very soft and gooey. I guess the best idea is to scrape all the affected portions out.

My question is, what do I put back in its place? Also, what’s the purpose of this compound? Sound deadening, heat insulation?

I was thinking of laying on multiple coats of aresol undercoating. What do you think?

It is sound deadened. Something like dynamat (research there are other cheaper options) is a good replacement.
