Interior paint removal?

There are countless threads all over asking how to paint interior pieces. A couple years ago I bit the bullet and started converting the black/gray interior in my 94' to all black. I finished everything minus the front seats, dash, and the steering column/wheel. I can't remember exactly what products I used but IIRC it was 3M adhesive promoter with duplicolor black and topped with duplicolor clear.

It turned out really well but I honestly wasn't sure what to use to keep it protected. The car is my daily driver and sees a lot of abuse and dirt. Some of the areas are really starting to fade and there are quite a few nicks and scrapes on the painted sections.

I guess I'm just asking if anyone that has painted their interior pieces has tried to remove it back down to the original panels. Is this even possible? If it sounds like way too much trouble I guess I can just touch up the worn spots. If I leave it paited what kind of product can I use to keep them looking good and protected? I used to armor all everything before I painted.

to prep my panels, i used 3M Grease/Dirt/Wax/Thinner--was in a little tin can w/ a white top. it would actually remove some of the tan (i converted to black, too) while i was prepping them, so it's pretty strong.

i would personally just touch up. i've had to only a few times, and i dont' mind because i HATE the "saddle" tan interior.. i used Duplicolor Interior & Vinyl paint--matched PERFECTLY w/ the black that was already there and has hold up quite well (car's my daily driver, too, so i know what you mean about the abuse).

i used to use armor all to protect the paint finish and it worked well. i stopped, though, because i don't like the glossy look on the inside.

no pics of the actual process, but what i did was take EVERYTHING out (except the dash), disassemble stuff completely and prep w/ the 3M stuff i mentioned above, then sprayed everything w/ about 2-3 coats, let dry, then very carefully reinstalled it all.

for the dash, i masked it off w/ trashbags, newspaper, and painter's tape, prepped it w/ the 3M stuff, sprayed 2-3 coats, let it dry, and that was it.

after painting (new carpet, new seats, rear-seat-delete, 01-04 center console w/ leather shift boot and ebrake boot, etc):

totally worth it

that looks great punisher...i hate tan as well luckily i have all black in the cobra...what was the paint you used just regular flat black duplicolor interior piant?? i want too get an 01-04 center console like you did...

thanks, man. yeah, the paint is "Duplicolor Interior & Vinyl".

the console, i got at a junk yard for $50. i bought an extra in case i screwed the first one up, but didn't. hell, i even sprayed the ebrake boot with the Duplicolor spray and it's held up perfectly!

how much work was it to put the new edge console in your car. i like the look of the newer one better than the current console.

as far as the actual console swap, it was direct. the hardest thing was swapping the my stock wiring harness (for the foglight switch, etc) to the new console.

I was about to ask the same thing. Never thought about swapping in the newer console before but that does look nice.

I'll probably just end up touching up the paint as the majority of it is holding up pretty well. Obviously most of the wear is on the center console so maybe I can find a newer year replacement in black. Hopefully I can just touch up the other spots and maybe hit them with a couple more coats of clear to protect it better.

Still need to pick up the summit seats and a fr500 wheel to finish out the dash.
