well i went out and bought some vinyl paint from checkers... i spent all week looking for vinyle dye but i cant find it... anyway i got the stuff from checkers and it looks good but it scratches off pretty easily... i was wondering where i can get vinyl dye... anyone know?

I painted my interior with red devil enamel satin paint. Came out great. You have to degrease like crazy to all the painting parts before you paint. If not it wont stick.
Also lookinto krylon plastic fusion paint.

I have an 86 Gt i'm restoring bascially right now. The car used to have Red interior but I changed over too SVO gray or "charcoal gray". Anyway i bought some cans from 50resto and the color is off just a little. You can tell my dash is lighter than my new Door panels I picked off an 86 SVO. SO!! What i did is i went down to my local paint shop in PHX here "spaceage paint and supply" and they gave me the exact color i needed, and now it matches pertfectly. You cant tell I even sprayed them. Heres what i did, clean the panels totally! for a awesome turn out! Use some plastic adhension promoter "that way the paint you spray sticks, you only need some light coats" Then i just poured the paint into my spray gun and shot it. The paint shop I goto can also put the paint into rattle cans but they said that i'll have to use manys coats to achieve the right color. And since i wanted to get done i just used my gun. I'll post some pics as soon as the car gets the 3rd tranny installed!! OH and i used a SATIN clear coat to top it off. And i cant scratch any of my paint off either. Its as if it came from the factory. I've rubbed a panel for about 30min with Finish 2000 spray and nothing rubbed off so im' happy.
I used Duplicolor Vinyl spray. I believe the spray from www.50resto.com is basically the same stuff, paint. Prep is the key. I'm happy with my black interior. Make sure you let it dry for a good 24 hours before handling it alot.

i sprayed it w/ an ass load of thin coats but when i went to install the instrument bezel it just chipped off... i didnt allow it to sit for 24 hours but i went out there today and it scratched off just as easy as it did before??? and it LOOKS AWESOME! just scrathches to easy...
Get used to the scratching and flaking, that's just a normal part of it. That is why it is best to only paint in low traffic areas, areas that won't get touched too often.
IMO, it is always best to use original color parts. I have experimented with a flat color, and sprayed a clear coat over it, which gives it a semi gloss finish, much more durable, and highly resistant to chipping, but still not foolproof.
