I'm going to be purchasing the 9psi kb for my ride. Since I'm putting that investment into the sc, what type of upgrade should I do for the internals. I know some who have the same kit do nothing, and it's not like I'm going to be beating the crap out of the thing. It has around 55,000 miles and I'm thinking of just being a little cautious. I don't forsee ever wanting more than 425-450rwhp. So what does everyone recomend?
Thanks :nice:

If you're going to upgrade the lower end.. you might as well do everything while you have it apart.. pistons, rods, oil pump gears, port&polish, etc. Up to you. If you have the time/money.. definately worth it from what I hear.

Amen, if you've got the dough for the s/c, you can save a little more, or spend a little more depending on your situation :p and go for strenthening the engine's internals. Better safe than sorry.

Forge the internals. I didn't and now I regret it. I just had a custom tune done and I noiw put down 417/434 and I still crave more. Don't think that you will ever be satisfied. I could run 11 psi on pump gas with a good tune, which would probably be 450 rwhp but right now I do not dare to go over the 9 psi that I am running.

Heck, I'd even recommend to get forged and get the bigger blower (2.2) bc I now know that you can never have enough HP. It will be a challenge to get all the power on the ground, but thats just fun.

With all these upgrades what is a safe psi for the 1.7L?

So 425 not enough....yah..who am I kidding, I'm sure I'll want more...who doesn't. Cost wise (for the parts) what am I looking at for the forged internals, and who would be a good source of products?
Thanks for all your input!!!

"4.6 Rotating Assembly - Engine Building Special From $1,495.00

Full rotating assembly kit for 4.6 engines including Manley forged pistons and H-beam rods, forged steel crankshaft, SHM moly piston rings, Clevite rod bearings, and Federal Mogul main bearings. The quality doesn’t get better than this for aggressive street or moderate race applications up to 650 hp, 7000 rpm. "

When I bought my 360R I thought the same thing - that I wouldn't crave anymore power...wrong! Trust me, it doesn't take long to get used to more power (just wait 'til you get beat in a race with all that new power...then it's not enough).

Check out Kenne Bell's FAQs and Tech Tips - they have LOTS of good info on power levels and reliability.

If you can live with 400-430 rwhp in a "everything included and tuned" kit then the 1.7L (9psi - intercooled) kit is where you want to go. Obviously, you can only push so much boost with the 1.7L before you're operating out of the efficiency range for that blower. If you want 500+ rwhp, go with the blowzilla (2.2L)

Thanks That's exactly what I was looking for!!!

Actually I read 10 to 11psi on my saleen boost gauge, although I have the 9psi kit.
I see 10psi from 2000rpm.... :D

So you see a straight 10-11psi through to redline? It doesn't build slightly more as you stay on it? Mine hits 10psi instantly down low but builds to 13 fairly quickly and stays there until 6000RPM.

Make sure your intercooler pump is working. Mine lost it's prime and i saw that kinda boost. Soon as I primed it again it was back to around 10PSI at WOT

I remember reading something about priming the intercooler pump being a pain but I didn't do the install. So how do I check this? :D lol

You guys don't forget that boost is a measurement of restriction. You are pumping a rather large volume of air with the KB screw blower into a motor with stock cams, stock heads (although good ones), and stock manifolds it appears, and catted midpipes. I also showed higher than rated boost until I went to aftermarket cams and offroad pipe (which is now for sale :nice: ). Now it reads 8.5 - 9 psi like it should.
