Could be a pulley, most likey the one on the tensioner. Had to replace one a few times.

Don't forget that the bolt holding the tensioner pulley is reverse thread....learned that one the hard way.

Dont forget to check pulley alignments. A machinist's edge works well.

Good luck.

Yep I third the belt slippage, especially if your saying you got on it when it happened. You can try a few things, Check your belt for excessive wear( if you have a manual you can check the tensioner for tolerance) Also if its over 20-30k and you live in a rainy/snowy climate they tend to die sooner. They are cheap insurance I keep a few in the trunk. (well... wheel well)

Good Luck with your squel

Yes the belt is correct, and every thing is aligned properly. It happened the same day I had the gears put in. Im sure now that it is the tensioner pulley. Thanks guys for the advice and will post pictures of boyh stangs soon.

have you taken the belt off and spun each pulley??

have you tried starting the engine with the belt off to make sure it's an accessory drive noise??
