Is it possible to make the '01 Cobra IRS fit into a '66 Mustang Coupe?

I have a friend with the Cobra that wants a solid rear and told me he'd give me the IRS or sell it to me if I can get him a solid rear. I don't want the IRS for my '99 GT, as it's fun swinging the rear end out from time to time, and I'd love the '66 to be a road coarse vehicle sometime in the next few years (whenever my budget allows for it.)

Any information would be good! I know Reen did this to his '67, and that think looks SWEET!

Thanks!

They've actually done the swap and haven't updated their website. I think that it was back in Aug, but the jist is that after they put it in, they discovered that the wheels were sticking out about 1" on either side, but they didn't notice it on the car that they were working with because it had fender flares on the rear. They wrote that either you can get the flares and put them on the 64 1/2-66 or you can get a deeper off set rim. I'll look for the link and post it if I can find it.

Here it is:

That was dumb. Guess they didn't know how to read the "ticky-ticky" marks on the tape measure. No wonder they didn't put it up on their site.

IRS into a '66

I will be jumping in with both feet, in the next few months. DVS kit is in the garage next to 2003 IRS. Picking up new project car on Friday. Will be doing Heidt's front with IRS in rear. Once I get started I will take plenty of pics. Ordered Heidt's kit through Pete at Reene machine, he has been a great resource.

How much did you pay for the DVS kit?

on a side note - how much do you think a solid rear axle setup from a salvage yard will cost? I can get this IRS, but I have to replace it with a solid-rear setup from another mustang... 99-04. (is the V-6 rear the same as the V-8 for those cars?)

With the options I picked it was $1,350.00 shipped. Koni shocks are a major portion of the cost. Dave was great to deal with and discussed pro's and con's of different suspension upgrades in early mustangs.

Anybody tried the Reenmachine IRS

I was drooling over the Cobra IRS at Reenmachine (they say it will fit 65-66 cars with minor mods) while checking out the front suspension. I still have leafspring/8.8/drum/5 lugs in the rear of mine and have added IRS to my (lengthy) wish list. At about 5k, it seems costly. Has anyone used this setup, or found one comparable for less?
