IRS on 95 GT?

ok, snapped my rear axle and really screwed up my backend the other day... my friend did IRS and loves it... has anyone done this on our body style? Any suggestions of other things to do now are appriciated... might as well do gears, I have a set of 3.55s lying in the garage, brand new, so that's all well and fine... rear brakes are being done too... but everything else is up in the air... thnx guys

I guess it depends on what you want the car for. Are you looking for it to handle better in corners or do you want it to do better in a straight line? If I were in your shoes I would stick with the straight axle and throw those gears in. You should do some reading in the SVT threads and read up on a couple of those threads about people wanting to swap to a straight axle with their stock IRS setups.

well, my stang is my daily driver... and I haven't even been to the track in a while... I have the gears from a friend, assuming they're still fine... so I was thinking IRS w/ the gears for a more spirited drive around town... and better traction too...

-so, mostly it'll be used around town, and driving to and from work... only about a dozen times at the most a year at the track...

Stay straight axle... IRS is best for track use... If you go to the drag strip you will be happiest with the straight axle, and being that you already have one it will be cheaper.

If you really want to handle and drag consider a panhard bar....
