I am looking to install some 3.73s or maybe 3.90s soon. Some of the local speed shops have quoted me $499 for the gear, install, royal purple, friction modifier, and speedo calibration. Does this seem high for this install?

Also: Any advice on which gear (3.73-3.90) to go with would be appreciated.

You don't say what part of the country your from. Here's info regarding SoCal. To have a professional performance shop do an install your looking at between $300 - $450. There are a few guys that do it on the side for less than $300. As far as anywhere else in the USA, I have seen anywhere from $200 to $500 depending on your local.

A local mustang shop here near detroit will install the gear and dyno tune the car for $600 as long as you provide the gear. does your shop include the gear and/or the dyno tune? If they do, that does not sound like that bad of a deal.

I got mine for:

FRPP 4.10's via Summit Racing $138
Friction modifier $10
Install w/synthetics $200
Speedo Calibration $100

So, that's $448 total. If you're getting everything from one shop, then $500 is a good deal. I shopped around for the install, shopped online for the parts, and shopped around for the speedo calibration (reflashed stock ECU).
