Is $875 too much?

Alright,

My guy that knows mustangs up and down quoted me at about $875 for the following:

- Header install
- SVO side exhaust install
- Side skirt install
- X pipe install
- CAI install

Now, I'm like f**k - I'd do the work if I wasn't such a rook but this guy is real straight up and tells me the header installation is going to be a BITCH. Does this price sound reasonable? Labor is around 70/hr - he also tells me he prob has to take the engine out or what not - so I also told him I'm gonna want the entire bay cleaned up if that's the case - I'm gonna go all out if the engine's out.

What do you guys think? If you have any other things I should throw in while the engine is out? Should I go on a spree again and buy a ton of ****? ANSWERS MUCH APPRECIATED!!

I can always blow my tuition for Fall 2006 early and save it back up - only runs me 3K a semester. We'll see.

Wow, that seems like a ripoff to me. Are the headers equal lengths? Cause you definately don't have to take the engine out either way. CAI is all of a 10 min job.....the h-pipe first time out should take 30-45 min. And headers with the car up on jack stands will take a few hours and a patience, the only thing I haven't done is the side exhaust thing....but I don't see how that could be hard at all. I'd just do it yourself....you'll learn a lot and the next time round it'll all take you half as much time.

do it yourself. headers were my first project and from there i worked my way up to doing the head, cam and intake. and i never even took auto class in highschool. I learned as i went and saved thousands of dollars in the process.

you are looking at probably 12-14 hours of exhaust work if you flatback it yourself.. how do you value your time...

I think I would buy the beer and pizza and have a buddy or two help me out all day on a saturday to get most of it done.

I can say that my h-pipe took 3 weeks as I had to cut/brake the header studs then drill them out for some bolts... the drilling added 2 weeks of a little here little there.. without that I think that would have taken maybe 2 hours... Now I can do it in under an hour...

I vote do it yourself and learn from it. For that $$ even if you have to take a couple days off work you are still ahead finachially.

save ur money. im about to do almost all the same things. some simple hand tools and ur good to go. if i had to pay for anything to be installed it would be the headers. im not even sure if im going to do mine. im considering paying for that, lol. cuz theyre going to be a b1tch and i rather not go crazy tryin to do it. :D

you guys are pansies.....do the ****in installs yourself...its not hard at all....you could easily do everything in 2 days max if you allot yourself some time.....like was mentioned b4, some cold ones and a couple of pizza's along with some buddies, and its fun as hell....good luck, and dont waste your meny....think of all the other things you could get with the money you save from installing it all yourself

Hey JR - nah I don't - why are you offering??!! haha. I'm going to absolutley get it done Thurs/Fri - I got my quote matched to a lower price for the side exhaust so we'll see. Gonna decide by the end of the day though.

I'd love to do the work myself but got no tools, no lift, and no garage, haha. Damn townhouses.

im sure JR would give you an hand :D i def would if i wasnt like 8 hrs away.....800 bux is just too much to spend on labor.....

if your h-pipe has never been out and your not re-using the stock headers i would just cut the studs that connect the mid-pipe and headers. itll save TONS of time and headachs

Nearly $900?!?! Damn dude, that's like a set of heads right there. Save that money, buy heads, and you don't gotta worry about the headers being a PITA. With the heads off, EVERYTHING is easy to change out, lol. And actually, my header bolts came out real easy.

I use the beer and lunch out when I did my exhaust with my buddies. I could have done it myself but one of them had air tools and the other one is an ASE mechanic.

Just got 3 subs and we split a 30 of bud and cranked out the headers and midpipe flatback in about 6 hours.

Good time, easy job, great first way to get your hands into your car and build confidence.
