I'm looking at a 97 cobra with 97K on it. New clutch. Owner claims he's driven it reasonably, kept the oil changed with synthetic. I wonder how many miles the 4v motors go before they start having issues. I know my way around a 5.0 to rebuild it, but I'd be lost on a mod motor. Any input would be appreciated, I have my 84 t top notch up for sale to buy this car an I want something I can enjoy a few summers before I have to tear into it. Thanks.

97k is nothing, 4.6 mod motors are very reliable..........

Go for it - just clean out the IMRCs though; at 97K miles on a 12 year old car, they'll probably need a cleaning:

(link directs you to a IMRC cleaning document, in PDF format, taken from the SVT Mustang Cobra Club website: Official Homepage of the South Central Cobra's chapter of SCMC )

My 96 Cobra is at 133k. I've had small issues here and there, but the motor seems to be solid. I've yet to have to do any major work on the car and motor doesn't use any oil between changes.

97K is nothing. There is a guy with a 2003-2004 Cobra on here or SVTP with 200,000 and counting.

BTW. I have a 97 Cobra motor and trans here at work and I drove the car when it came in. It has 95K and runs perfect. Just like my 96 with 54K.

Thanks for the info...I'm trying to work it out an get the car next week. There was a 97 local to me but it shows 173K on it but some of that is due to some one putting 410's in an not correcting the speedometer. It's the same price an the one with 97K but the lower mileage one is 250 miles away. Cobra90 thanks for the tip one the imrc....the local one owner said he did that to it last winter but I had no clue what he was referring to. See this is way i love this site.
