Hey guys, im looking at getting an Anderson power pipe for an N/a car. I see the 3 1/2 pipe and the 4" pipe but for the 3 1/2" pipe it says it only works with the pro-m shorty MAF. Does anyone know why? Im thinking it may be because of the rubber piece that it connects to isnt too long. On the other hand the 4" pipe says it will work with any MAF except C&L and the bullet. It looks like the metal part is curved at the end allowing for a longer MAF? I am just guessing here. I've tried emailing them, maybe there too busy but havent gotten a reply. I may call them on Monday. I really want the 3 1/2" but I think tis going to be impossible to find a MAF shorty for 19lbs or itll be extremely expensive. Should I order it and try to use my stock one? I think it may work.

I really dont want to order the 4" because of the price, but if I do have to get it, will I notice a decrease in performance because of the big pipe?

3 1/2"

4"

lol can you guys give me a more direct answer please? I am just trying to ask if I am going to sacrifice some power because the 4" wont give me as much velocity as the 3 1/2" or will I not even notice the difference? I dont mind opening up the fenderwell a little.

I hate you S&B

lol i doubt you'll be able to tell the difference as far as performance between the 3.5 and 4" on your n/a setup. i made my own 3.5" system. cost about 105$ for everything.

Damn cenok where did you get that pipe from?? Did you have to bend it and stuff? I dont have the equipment to bend any metal. What kind of MAF did you use? Is that just the 94-95 maf?

Would you consider making another one for some cash?

Can't hurt. It will look cool.

I had a 95GT with a Procharger. The 3" tubing on that car flowed 13psi no problem.

In all honesty you won't see a difference between that and the original tube with a K&N. I think the horsepower difference is like 3hp. I read that years ago when 5.0's were more popular. Still it looks cool and the sound is better. Also if you have an electric fan your MAF won't go nutso as long as your filter is in the fender. I think I've had a 4 in on mine before

Now my buddy had a noticable difference from the RAM Air kit, but rain and discarded cigarette butts are a problem

True, to be honest I am mostly getting this for looks. I am looking to clean up my engine bay and the stock air box takes up wayyyy to much space, and the bbk looks like chit.

I think I am just going to go with the 3 1/2" because the rubber elbow at the end of it looks the same as cenok's and it looks like he's using a 94-95 GT MAF which is what I will be using.

Can you guys give a little bit of details on how you made the pipes? Did you buy a straight pipe and bend it? Weld it?

I went on ebay and bought 4'' uj bend, cut my hole in my inner fender to 4.50 inch. put a insulator around the hole and cut the bends at the right angles with a metal chop saw and had them tig welded at a local speed shop. Very easy to do if you have any fab skills! I have built many intakes for many different cars/trucks very simple! i used stainless but if u used mild steel you could keep your cost really down there.... Custom Intake Parts: Intake Hoses, IntakeTubing, and Intake Clamps is the company i used to get the special elbows hope this helps good luck

I promise that a 4.00" pipe (12.56" of area) is not needed for 400 RWHP.

It will not hurt though.

Well, needed or not...consider this...

The carbed cars have a duel "CAI" with the duel snorkel air cleaner setup. The tubes that are in the fenders are between 3.5 and 4 inches, and there are two of them. I know this is a sort of apples to oranges comparison, but like you said it's also not gonna hurt either. I would say that too much throttle body is going to hurt worse. We could go into intake air velocity, but that's really only an issue after the air passes the throttle body since that's what is controlling the intake of air. As long as it's a smooth intake track and free of kinks and rough places that would cause turbulance, i'd think that 3 or 3.5 is plenty. But, i also know Rick Anderson knows his stuff and he wouldn't sell a 4 inch if it didn't work for somebody.
