Is a 5.0 Gauge Cluster the same as a 2.3

I have a 1991 Mustang 5.0. My gas gauge and temp gauge do not work (they worked when I purchased it). I know the speedo and Tach are different. Are the other gauges the same between a 5.0 and a 2.3 (volts, oil pressure, gas, water temp)? I can get a gauge from a 1993 4 cyl. for free. If I swap the Tach and Speedo to the 4 cyl Cluster. Will it work in a 5.0? Let me know. Thanks Travis

You can use the 4cyl housing in your 5.0 along with the temp, oil, gas etc. As for the tach it will read half of what it should be. Putting in the 5.0 tach and speedo will just snap right in w/o any problems.

I have done this, I first put a 140 speedo in my 4cyl coupe. Then when I did my swap I had to get a 5.0 tach but it snapped right in and has worked for the past 4 years.

Both the 85 and 140 speedos use the same connector to the speedo cable and are intechangable.

The tach will read double what it should. I still have the 4 cyl cluster in my car but I run a seperate tach so I just ignore the false reading but all the other instruments read good.

Mustang gauges

Thanks for the reply. I went and got the 1993 4 Cyl. Cluster. I swapped my 5.0 Tach and Speedo into the 4 Cyl housing. Everything works perfect. My original gauges (gas, temp, oil, volts) worked until I did the white face install. once I did the install the gauges would stick every once and a while until I tapped the housing. one day they just quit working (Gas, Temp). I replaced them with the 4 cyl. cluster And now they all work again. Easy fix. Thanks for all of the help. If anyone needs info on how to do this let me know. Thanks Travis
