I mean is it worth it at all??

I need an air filter for my '03. Previous owner lived out in the country so the stocker is dirty after 12,000 miles.

Should i just buy a K&N or just get a stock paper filter??

Also, what's the best thing to do with the silencer?? Just trim it? or remove it completely?

I don't plan on modding this car much mechanically. I was just thinking Shifter, cat-back and maybe some sort of induction.

Should i get an air intake kit of some sort?

take the silencer out and put a k&n in it and don't worry about a cold air intake.

My Opinion is YES they are worth it. About the Air Silencer, ditch that bad johnson.

I went with the FIPK II and I am happy with it

Buy the K&N and cut your air box so it isn't inclosed any more, then buy the throttle body pipe from Densecharger.com for $65 shipped and then you got your cold air kit. You won't get any big gains from the K&N but i like knowing I don't ever have to buy a another air filter and if you get your oil changed at Jiffy Lube they pester the **** out of you about your damn air filter anymore.

I just put the K&N in my 04 a couple of weeks ago...and is it worth it?
Well i could not really feel a difference, but i beleive when i replace my plenum and trottle body the 3 will work nicely together. It sure does look nice under the hood though.

Anyones opinions on this?

A afe intake system draws air from the fender and has been dyno tested for 22hp gain...not bad. I got one on the way myself.

I put one in my '03 a couple of months ago. It's my daily driver..err only car I have. I'm pumping out a little better than 26 mpg on the highway now. Worth every bit of the $49.95 I paid for it.

Ebay has some good deals on filters too. I'm seeing K&N's for less than $10. Some of them are barely used too.

Got a dyno sheet to back that up? What other mods were on the car?

True...there may have been other mods on the car, and other mods may compliment the intake. None the less, it'll make a big difference.

Well thats a bunch of total crap isnt it. Dyno yours and see what you get! Good luck!

A K&N is worth it (so cheap) although gains from CAI stuff are very small on a GT. The newer cobras show larger gains but for NA cars dont expect a lot.

I got one, it's worth the fact that I never have to buy another filter.

I'm about to buy the K&N filter myself. I'll post my comments after install. As for CAIs, I think they're stock on GTs, so make sure you check for that snorkle in the fender well before you go buying another... (thanks Menasci).

And, not to hijack, but why remove the silencer? (Just wondering about the pros and cons.)

Well, i've been reading up on silencer removal on the 99+ cars.

Some say removing the silencer will give you top end HP but sacrifice low end torque. Keeping it in wwill give you the torque back, but no HP gain.

On street cars, especially us with stock 3.27's, you want the torque.

That's why i'm concerned with what to do with the silencer. Remove it, leave it or trim it???

Like i said in my first post, i'm keeping my car stock mechanically save for shifter, exhaust and induction.

Alright, here my take, I'm bone stock... I removed my air silencer/snorkle whatever you would like to call it and I noticed I can rev up faster and Im pretty sure I picked up a few hp because my car feels abit more powerful then it did before I removed it.

I have come to realise the people that preach "I dont notice a diffrence" or "it affects my low end and its a trade for top end" ALL HAVE EXHAUST MODS.

So IMHO if you dont have exhaust mods, removing the silencer/snorkle is worth while, if you do have exhaust mods it depends on what you want.

I have yet to get any replies from a the previous post (Below)stating otherwise.
