Is An Autometer A/f Gauge Ok To Tune With?

I have an '02 GT with a full exhaust, intake, pulleys, shifter. It will have a set of cams soon. I am also going to buy the SCT handheld tuner for adjusting timing and fuel maps.
Can you get away with an autometer A/F gauge to tune your A/F??
Wideband seems kinda pricey.

Also, what do you guys think of the SCT tuner?? Does it give you more control than the diablo?? any thoughts appreciated!

Everything I have read says A/F gauges except wide band are mainly just light shows and not very accurate.

You must use a wideband O2 gauge, preferably with a datalogger. I don't know anything about SCT tuners, other than mostly good reports about them that I have seen posted. I use a Diablo Predator myself and like the results.

The guage is a light show...a nice one...I have one myself...but just a light show

it wont help you tune only give a rough estimate as to where the cars a/f is at. they are run off the cars 02's. those sensors are too generic to tune with. a wideband is expensive but so is a motor. i would suggest finding a dyno with a wideband, make a few runs so you can see the a/f and determine if you need to adjust the fuel.

i think the autometer a/f guage is very narrow in its readings..

something like 13.8 - 15.8 AFR (or near that) so if you're way leaner it wont be able to tell you by how much. To tune you really need a wideband.... but they are expensive
