Is forced induction with a headswap possible?

Hey everyone. I have a '98 headswapped GT. I know boost isn't recomended for headswappers b/c of the increased compression, but I thought I've seen guys on the board with headswapped and supercharged cars. I figure that with a great tune, it would definitly be possible.

Anyone have any comments or know of any headswapped cars with boost?

yes it can be done...but you need to have the swirl dams removed from the heads...this will lower the compression back down to acceptable levels.....if you boost your car the way it is you will probably have to run 100 gas or real low boost....along with a great tune....I wouldn't risk it....

I am assuming your heads are already on the car....if you don't want to take them off you might just have to go another route....such as nitrous....

Thanks guys. I actually ran a search for this topic and found it back in Dec. There seems to be mixed feelings here. I have the stock '03 heads on my car with no machine work, so it may be risky.

yes...it's definately risky boosting at the compression your at

If you still have your old heads, go with a P&P and you should be fine. I did a thread about this some time ago. I was told that the non PI heads flow just as well if not better than the NON-P&P PI heads when they have a P&P job and it's alot safer to boost. I know the PI heads flow better with a P&P but everyone says it's not a good idea to boost. That's just my .02

how come a guy could slap a blower on a 99-04 cars that already have the pi heads and not really have problems, and you guys can't?

Just put in new internals and you'll be fine to add boost. You really should be putting in new lower compression forged internals when you boost it, no matter what heads you have.

Or you can get dished pistons. They lower the compression back to boost friendly levels. There was an article about one offering last year in 5.0 mag, but I can't remember who made the ones they tested.
