Gang,

I read this on another forum:

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=25485

Is it true that Ford stopped installing the H/C trap on the Mustang? I wonder if they maintained the same tune as the cars with the trap? This makes me thing that if the tune is the same then the trap's removal will not cause problems with the car.

I have JET chip in my 2005 and am going to remove the trap and see hwat it does.

Mine (built 5/19) has no trap. I'm don't know if they changed tunes, but it seems they have stopped putting them in.
Good Luck!

People have been pulling them out since they were discovered without causing any problems. The jury is out on if there is really any gains. Some people have reported a 2 hp gain alone with a small mpg increase. My own short testing has indicated a small mpg increase (16 to 18) but I don't have access to a dyno so I can't attest to the hp gains. I've only had my car since 4/15 and pulled the trap a couple weeks ago.

Carbon trap

Yeah, all Mustangs built after 4-4-05 no longer have the carbon trap. Noticed mine was not installed when I got the car, so I called Ford's tech hotline. Ford found that "it saved 1lb and added 5hp" as per the engineer's response.

There was earlier speculation that removing it actually hurt performance. Do you know if they changed the engine management software settings or not? I wonder if it's ok to simply remove it. 5 hp is pretty dam significant for a 5 minute job.

Checked with a mechanic at my Ford Dealer on the way home last night. No more H/C traps in the latest GT's so I pulled mine last night. I am running the Jet Performance Module so I was concerned about any problems or differences. Took the car out for a test after pulling the H/C trap. Happy to report no prolems last night or during this mornings drive to the office. Car seems to like the difference...... and so do I......

quickest test to see if trap is there is simply squeeze the rubber tube next to the plastic air box, if its soft you don't have it.

Everyone seems to blast the bean counters at Ford for their cost cutting.

How about a round of applause to the bean counters for finally taking out something we never wanted in the first place.

Is Ford still using the H/C Trap

Well I removed my H/C trap and put about 70 miles on the car today. It does seem to breath a little better, especially above 4k RPMs.

No adverse effects yet- other than my gas milage is down because I have my foot too far in the gas testing to see if the car is faster at upper rpms.

Man, I can not believe how easily these things spin the tires in second and chirp them hard in third. Second gear wheelspin is dam near effortless above 4000 rpms !
