Is gear to gear timing worth it???

Hey since I'm redoing my chain and sprockets, I have a chance to go with the gear to gear sets that I've seen from edelbrock. Is there any advantage to them? I was first planning with just going double roller chain, but these caught my eye. I can't think of anyway it would improve performance, but I can definetly see how it could wear out quickly

Any input?

Some timing gears are noisy (if that is what you mean - no chain). And some/most require machining for the cam gear to work (there may be more, but I stopped caring at that point).

My bud has a seriously built 67 with timing gears and it does sound mean (blowerish).

i have them in my stang. a little noisey but i like it. its a little jumpy with im timing. but i guess i feel more solid with it on if you know what i mean

I had a pete jackson gear drive in my old Firebird. It was noisey! Seriously your car will sound like it's been supercharged.

The two downsides:
1) You can't hear anything else in the engine bay if you have to diagnose a problem with the noisy gear set (I know this for a fact)
2) The gear will place a little added stress on your crank / cam gears and you will be limited to a certian RPM.

Pluses:
1) You'll never stretch the gears like a chain
2) Your timing will be spot on forever

gear drives transmit crank harmonics into the valvetrain.
get a good double roller, you'll be much happier, and so will your valvetrain

whats a good roller timing set? I forgot to get a new one when i ordered the rest of my h/c/i parts :-/
