I worked at a transmission shop a while back, and we always installed a new converter. We NEVER reused a converter after trany failure.

what's the point of installing a new trans if your gonna use a tired old converter...
get the most out of your new trans and get a new converter.

Thing is, debris from wear or failure in the old tranny ends up
in your converter, then will contaminate the rebuilt trans.

Also flushing or replacing the cooler is a good idea since debris ends up in there as well.
