I have a stock 302 that is in the vehicle and running. I have a constant valvetrain noise that I nor anyone else can figure out. I have had this noise ever since I got my heads and block back from the machine shop last month. I have since spent 500.00 on differen't pushrods lifters and rocker rollers and still no such changes. I have spent another 300.00 at 2 differen't performace speed shops and they have went thru it and said yes its all adjusted right and they have even made adjustments to come up with the same thing I have. The oil galley plugs are all in so thats been eliminated also. The last guy that looked at it asked why I had it in the machine shop and when I told him that I had blowby and the machine shop aalso found a busted main cap he suggested that maybe there was a crack to where the car wasn't holding enough oil pressure. He said it will read fine on the oil guage but that can be misleading. Which by looking at the guage my pressure is excellent. He said it may be cracked above the pan to where it just leaks back in the pan. He compared it to internal bleeding. And said where the noise is comeing from those paticular lifters may not be sufficiently pumpin up. I do know that where the noise is comeing from that even with the old lifters in and the new ones those paticular 2 lifters on both sides of the motor always seem to be pumped up. I also tried some of that thick Lucas oil stuff and still just as noisy. Its louder at the back of the valve cover on both sides. And its just as loud with the covers off. You can only here it ticking and chattering if you give it gas its pretty quiet at idle. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I hate to ask this, but... Are you certain you don't have exhaust leaks between the head and header? I've had exhaust leaks I could swear were valvetrain noise until I finally found the problem.

It sounds like you've had quite a few people look at the car and they probably would have caught that, but I thought I'd mention it.
