Ok well im looking into buying another mustang i previously owned a 1990 gt mustang that went 13.4. I want a newer year i really want a 94-95 5.0 very hard to find around here in pittsburgh. But the question is i hear the 96-98 modles are dogs are not fast i want that body but i want a fast stang not a dog. I just want one i can drive everyday and have it in the 13s with out having to put a million dollars into. Is the myth true or am i just reading the wrong stuff. Help...

They aren't anymore of a dog than the stock 5.0's. It is just when you compare them to the 99+ stangs.

How well are they to mods? I guess the question is how hard are they to make 13s

PI headswap, or many have had good gains from just swapping to the pi intake and cams. This can be done relatively cheap if you are mechanically inclined enough to do the work yourself.

Buy a cheap 96-98 GT, and then do a PI headswap.

Instant 260-265HP and then you can do othe bolts on's suchg as plenum, TB, pulleys etc. Would make a good sleeper because nobody expects those cars to be quick

There are plenty of 94-95 5.0s in my area. Get the 5.0 over the 96-98 stang.

and GO BROWNS!!!!

So what you guys are telling me that the 96-98 are hard to make fast without swapping the heads or cams..

yes they are hard to make fast without PI swap. I have one with almost everybolt on and am still in the low 14s with street tires with some DRs i could prolly get into the 13s and a good tune but I would just buy one and do a PI swap for like 1500-2000 and you should be mid 13s with some 4:10s.

Plus Pittsburgh Steelers are the champs and let me know how the browns draft went this year OH YEAH BUST...yet again. Hows Tim Couch Courtney Brown and Kellen Winslow doing

look for a 94-95 GT. the 5.0's are easier and cheaper to make fast. H/C/I=~$2000 and 330 rwhp

I'm thinking about getting another non-pi gt for $2800

pi swap and some 4.10s would put me back in the sohc game again

you will have a lot more into a stock shortblock 5.0 to make 330rwhp. Dont let all the 5.0 hype fool you.

Between the 94/95 and 96-98 I would go 94/95 5.0. They are cheaper to make fast in that body style compared to the 4.6. Plus the 5.0 has a larger aftermarket... the 4.6 is catching up, but its still cheaper for a 5.0.

I wouldnt want to buy a car and have to do a headswap just so its on par with a newer model. The average 5.0 h/c/i swap lands around 300 hp from what ive seen. More or less depending on what else is done.

But comparing both in stock form the 5.0 feels quicker as compared to the 4.6 in the same body. The non-pi 4.6 needs to be revved before you start to feel it, the 5.0 is alive right off the line.

holy crap 2 browns fans in one thread.

oh and i think its a toss up between the 94-95 and 96-98. Both require H/C/I swaps to liven them up. The 5.0's are starting to gain in price so the 96-98 might be able to be found cheaper at this time.

Evey though the 5.0 is cheaper to mod, i think a PI swap to a NPI GT would be cheaper than doing H/C/I to a 5.0 in this case. The PI parts can be purchased for relatively cheap since they are take-off parts and relatively common. For the 5.0, a good pair of heads is going to cost $500/minimum and those would most likely be the GT-40(P) variety and will be a little toughter to hit 300HP.

Not saying it can't be done, but when it comes to hitting 300HP between a 94-95 5.0 and a 96-98 NPI GT, i think the cost difference between the two is minimal really.

Of course that all depends on if you purchase brand new parts vs used parts and which parts you use.

stock exhaust, no tune and stock fuel system to right? hey if I go off that reasoning, I made 310 to the tires with just stock ported heads and cams.

I have also heard that it is very hard to get decent #'s out of the 94-95 because of there ecu's ! Alot of people end up changing them to 89-93 units and as far as i know this also requires some wiring work or harness swap(?)
