would it be worth it to put the panasonic cq-df202u (45w X 4) in the place of the stock mach 460 head unit in my 01 gt with the 460 system?

i already have the panasonic unit so all it would cost is the install.

should i do it?

and will it plug right in or will there be more parts to buy?

i'm an audio newbie.

99% of the time, any aftermarket head unit will sound better (and have more options) than a stock unit. You may have to buy a wiring harness, probably less than $15.00. For sure it is worth it...
