Is my ECU dead?

My father owned my car for the past 7 years. In that 7 years the check engine light has NEVER came on. Many many many bad things have happened to this car and the light has never came on.

Well couple days ago I installed new 19lb injectors, plugs, wires, and coil. Running better but my idle still sucks. I think it is the IAC but anyways.

I have tried 3 code readers. All say no link, or error. Using OBD II style that connects under the drivers dash.

Car runs decent but it has random trouble idling. Some days its fine some days it isn't. I have always blamed the cam...wonder if it isn't the ECU now.

Several years ago I drove the car home 20 miles with a shattered piston...still didn't throw a code.

The 94-95 V8 Mustangs were OBD-I. The connector is under the hood, not under the dash. The reason there's a connector under the dash is because the V6 models were OBD-II, but in the GT/Cobra, they're not connected to anything, so you'll get no link.

Lots of people make this mistake. The real connector is clipped-on at the back side of the passenger-side strut tower under the hood. And you'll need and OBD-1 scanner or a paper clip (jumper) to read the codes. Chances are there will be a few codes stored if its been 7 years, so I'd clear them first by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes so no "ghost codes" appear. Then drive the car for a bit until it has time to re-learn everything through the entire operating temperature range so you get the up-to-date codes if there are any.

My plug under the dash works??? 100% sure absolutely positive..
I too wondered why it was an OBDII plug, but it absolutely works.

I used to work at advance and I used to scan cars all the time. I have scanned mine before but I couldn't remember where the connector was. I do feel retarded lol.

I have one hell of a memory to...but I guess I got mixed up from doing all the other cars.

Most of the time when a puter goes, you have massive system failures - you know it.

An intermittant issue is likely sensory-input related, or a wiring issue (hit a bump and it craps its pants, hit another bump and it cleans its shorts) are more likely.

The cool thing with the 94-95 EEC-IV processors (not true for foxes) is that you can view PIDs to see what's going on.
