I recently acquired a 302 and the guy didnt build it and the number he gave me to the builders did not work, I pulled a halve cover and and found a few things, they are cast iron and have the number OK17 between the first and second set of valves on the upper part of the head....then I found a cymbal between the last set of valves on the upper part that showed "CP" the spark plugs are angled and the rocker arms appeared to be stock and are bolted in not studs. I did not find 302 or 351 wrote on them or GT40 or anything else......just OK17 and CP... I did fin that they have large hexagon shaped freeze plugs on the heads as well....I dont know if thats normal or not.

you gotta look underneath the heads (remove them) and see the casting number on the bottom. the 0K17 should tell when they were cast, most likely 196(0)K would be a month, not sure which, and the 17th of that month.

Thanks, I dont plan on pulling the heads anytime soon but I may one day, I know in a 78 f100 2WD SWB the motor really preforms good, there is always the possibility that they have been worked over though.

If you have E7's just be thankful. A buddy of mine bought a 90LX and it looked nice enough, but just wasn't as quick as I thought it should be.... had E6 heads on it. Also, when people say the heads have been "worked" or "built" that usually means it's had the heads refreshed, this doesn't mean ported I can assure you.
