When I try to get into reverse, it just won't go in sometimes, and sometimes I'm even presented with a grinding noise as if I'm not holding the clutch in. WTF is up with this?

it never happens for me if i hit 4th before shifting into reverse.
also, if it wont let you in, just put it in first and let up on the clutch just so the car moves slightly forward and it will go into reverse just fine.

Ok, sounds good. I was just worried about bent shift forks or some other kind of problem.

Common, a way around it I found is to get the shifter into reverse, up to the point where it locks up (not letting you actually get into reverse). Release your clutch while holding it there, but you only release the clutch until it lets you engage into reverse.

Works every time.

I've never had that problem with my TR-3650, but with the 2001 with the T-45, it was the norm...

Only the T45 trannys have this problem since reverse has no syncro.

I alway go 4 then revert, my trick is let it on revert and let the clutch out slowly, if the shifter move, quickly put it in neutral because it will grind if you not put in neutral, try again and let the clutch out slowly and you seem its grap then hit the gas slowly and back out the car.

I just slip it in 5th real quick then it goes into reverse trouble free 95% of the time, any other time and when I put it in 5th I let the clutch out just a tad and then it works just fine ALL the time.

Like said, normal for a T-45 trans.

I don't think it's a major issue to worry about. I think one of the gears is a helical cut and one is a straight cut which is why they make noise trying to mesh?

HowStuffWorks.com has an article on it.

This is VERY NORMAL for any manual trans that does not have a synchro for reverse. Most do not. If you were not taught to throw it into gear and then go to reverse then you were not taught properly.

Also, if you go into gear and then still have trouble then your clutch is provably out of adjustment.
