Is the air being sucked into the filter supposed to be loud?

I'm a newbie to the 5.0 world, so I hope this is not a stupid question..

I have a BBK cold air kit, and the noise of the air being sucked in the filter is louder than I expeced.

(fyi, someone installed it wrong (filter facing down in teh engine bay)
and then I reinstalled it correctly in the fendor.
the noise was there both times, and I can hear the worling rush of the air being sucked in.

is this normal? perhaps the BBK is normally loud being it has metal tubes?

There is a whooshing sound attributed to running a CAI kit such as the BBK unit. If it is too loud for you, I would reinstall the factory stuff (purchased off of eBay)

Nicoleb3x3, just checked out your site. Thats great that you took on such a big project. :nice: Should be more women willing to do that in the world. good job on the web page too.

As far as the air noise, I have heard that the BBK CIA does make more noise, but I would think you shouldn't hear it that loudly in the passenger comparment. Is it a whistling noise? The BBK throttle bodies tend to whistle from what I have read, it could be that.

ok thanks guys,

yes, I already fixed the install and it's now located in the fender wall (so the pic is outdated on my site)

being in the fender, maybe I hear it more inside the car since the filter is closer to me.

the noise doesn't bother me, I just wanted to make sure it was normal.

Another yes....but also wanted to note (since you said you're new) that this was such an issue that Ford even installed a silencer in the stock intake track that quieted down the intake. This is often the first thing removed on an EFI Mustang, and its getting pretty rare to even find a stock Mustang with one.

Nice website! Girls like you are pretty rare.

The intakes on 5.0s are always loud, even the cai on my old 2.3 I had was loud. I can't hear mine inside the car though, but I do have a full exhaust system with no cats and race bullets that dumps before the rear axle. I can hear it from outside the car though with the hood down.
