Line up the test drives!
After odometer creep on my Saleen was becoming obvious, told wife to get her own stang. She was looking at the 40th anniversary GT, Mach and Cobra. Besides the obvious horsepower, torque, etc, there is a huge difference in the feel of these cars. You need to drive and think about how you are going to use the car! If I were looking for a car to do a rear seat delete and start racing, it would be the Cobra. The Cobra is a fine daily driver, but Van Halen got it right: I can't drive 55 in this thing. The Mach, IMO, is a fantastic package of handling and horsepower that is hard to beat at the price, and it is a great daily driver. Ford did their homework in most places, and added significant stability and handling equipment on the Mach. It handles well and runs well. Wife opted for the Mach, and we noticed a few improvements that are necessary over stock oem stuff: replace stock exhaust with Borla stinger cat-backs to open up and add a deeper tone, and beef up the tires. The tires, even though retro look with old style wheels are cool, look sorta wimpy because the fender flares can handle the 265 or 275 tires as opposed to the oem 245s. The Cobra comes with 275's and they fit the wheel well just right with deep wheels. My saleen has 265's on back (18X9 wheels) and 255's on front. They are trim but the rear looks like the 275 would be just right. Too much info. You need to drive.
