Like the title states, I'm on a hunt for the "best" exhaust sound that I can get out of 5.0. I do understand that this is based on opinions, so just post up your favorite! Youtube link your post if you can.

No, there isn't.

There are a few basics, like; Flowmasters are everywhere, Magnaflows are very subdued.. etc.

A lot of people say spintech's are one of the better sounding mufflers on a 5.0.

But you really just need to surf youtube and find a combo you like.

That's like asking "Which one of Tiger's mistresses is the hottest?"

You'll get 50 different answers all based on opinion

You just answered your own question. Its all opinion. Every exhaust brand, no matter what is going to be the best(to somebody). Somebody somewhere thinks its the best. So what are we going to accomplish in this thread we ask? Posting youtube clips and naming brands? Thats something you could look on youtube and through dealers websites to find on your own. Not to mention the 100 billion past threads of this exact question. fyi

The best one I found is the Walker Dynamax with the Stainless Steel Ultra Mufflers, the cat back system is easy to install, even in the garage. The fit is great and it uses all the original mounting points even on the mufflers. Best of all there is no drone between 1500/2000 RPM.

Posted via Mobile Device typically a straight through style muffler will be the least restrictive which in theory will make more power. Don't even bring up back pressure because some people around here will decapitate you if you say either too much or too little or that an engine needs or doesn't need it. Basically get what you like the sound of because even the worst flowing mufflers aren't going to be more than 5 or so hp less than the best flowing ones as long as the diameter is right for your combo.

Back in 1998 I bought my 1991 stock GT from the orignal owner and it came with factory exhaust (full mufflers and all 4 little catalytic converters up front).

I too had fallen in love with that unique 5.0 sound and so was determined to get it. I spent about $350 right away at a local exhaust shop and, on the advice of the manager, installed Flowmaster "chambered" mufflers which were made exactly to fit my car and were basically s-shaped tubes with bulges on them that bolted right in.

Those mufflers were an improvement, but lacked the burliness and bass that I was going for. It only kinda sounded good here and there depending on the rpms I was at. For 7 years I drove the car like that, but it never was what I had really wanted. Always bugged me.

I wanted to increase the sound quality and also keep my emissions legal front h-pipe with the cats. I also didn't feel like rolling the dice again for hundreds of dollars to end up where I already was.

Then, in 2005 a friend of a friend showed up with this stock 1988 LX 5.0 and it had "THE SOUND" I had been chasing all those years. I was amazed and pleased to find that all he had done was to put simple straight pipes where the factory mufflers had been, while retaining the factory h-pipe with the cats. The car had no mods.

So, for the grand total of $50 a local exhaust shop straight piped my car and I've been in heaven ever since. The system sounds totally "tuned" with just the original cats and straights at the back. Everyone I know loves the sound of my car (I'm known for it now). Going through the 5 gears is always a pure pleasure for me, and I haven't even had the stereo on since then (I'd much rather listen to the car).

The fact that it's a GT with the turned down pipes at the back adds to the bass, which really carries. Heads turn on people that I'm driving TOWARDS while they're still far, far off in the distance.

The car is loud, but a good kind of loud, at any speed. It sounds just as good inside, windows up or down. I've never once been hassled by the law. The cats muffle the sound so that it sounds really rounded, really low, really mean (but not crackly or barky). You can almost 'feel' the sound as much as you can hear it. And due to the bassiness it really travels. People can hear me coming a long way's off when I go to visit them.

I keep the 4cyl "fartcan" guys on the defensive here, who think that louder is always better. I don't agree...and neither do the cops. I love the way they get all jumpy when I pull up. I just laugh.

Either Ford took the time to tune the exhaust in aniticipation of people putting straights on it or it is simply an amazing and fortunate coincidence. IMHO I've got the best sounding car in town - and that's a REALLY great feeling. People always assume that I must have done some mods but in reality the car is totally stock, including the cats and the thermactic air pump and EGR ect. - the only "mod" is the muffler delete.

Anybody else out there running a similar setup? Comments?

Try using MAC, or hooker Aero chambers. They are definitely a different sounding exhaust on a mustang 5.0. And they aren't too pricey. I have the mac pro dumps, but honestly im with the reply about the Spintech's!! They sound sweet! Especially the pro streets! Definitely the next exhaust on my car.
JUST DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM A MAC DISTRIBUTOR CALLED PACIFICA MUSTANG AND COBRA! THE OWNER IS A SHADY, TWEAKER POS!!!!!! HE DOESNT DESERVE ANYBODYS BUSINESS.

I've always like the sound of flowmaster 2 chambers with an offroad pipe the best.
It's one of the sounds that made the 5.0 mustang so popular 15 years ago. You always knew when someone with a 5.0 mustang was coming towards you and away from you.

With that said, the quality is mediocre at best.

If you plan on keeping the car, go with quality, not sound. Because when the cheap stuff falls apart, you'll be replacing it again.

As a matter fact my 87 that I have has that same setup, I was suprised as well when I got the car and looked under and all it was missing was the mufflers with straight pipes at the end, Im know its doesnt make any difference in hp but it has that "throaty roller" sound that does sound good at low rpms
Merry Xmas
