im trying to finish this trans swap but ive run into a problem with the trans mount/crossmember. first of all i noticed that the trans that i pulled out was a tremec (3650?) and the replacement is a borg warner (t-45?). upon getting the borg warner in the car i see that the crossmember doesnt line up with the mounting points on the new transmission. i need to figure out whether or not the tremec (which i thought only came in 99-current), and the borg warner used different crossmembers...another thing i noticed is that the replacement mount i bought has 2 centered mounting bolts, while the one i took off the car had 2 offset mounting bolts (at the parts store i asked for the one for a 98).

my theory>> the car had a trans put in from a 99^ and therefore me switching it back to a pre-99 trans (t-45) means ill have to switch the crossmember back...(this theory only holds logic if there is indeed a difference btw the two crossmembers)!

look people maybe im not being clear on what i need/need to know. i have a 98 mustang gt with a 5spd tranny, the trans i pulled out was stamped tremec (i assume it was a 3650) and the trans i put back in is stamped borg-warner (i assume its a t-45) the trans bolts up perfectly, and is in the car but the trans mount location on the new trans casing is about 5 inches further back as opposed to the tremec one. what i need to know is were there two different style crossmembers used for each of these trannys, because the one i have will not work. i noticed that there are four holes in the frame where a possible crossmember could go and would line up perfectly with my mounting location, so this makes me believe there is another unit available, but i was hoping someone here could confirm this before i go to the dealer asking for a part that doesnt exist ya know?

I agree with you there. I've asked technical questions that no one even touched.

All I can help you with is that the TR-3650 didn't come in mustangs until 2001.5+. The T-45 is used in 96-2001 GT's and 96-99 cobra's.

I've got a 1999 (t-45), I can crawl under it and take pics of the crossmember if you like to see if it's the same.

PM me if that'll help.

Sometimes users just do not know the answer. It's better that they stay out of the thread than give you the wrong info. As a moderator, we allow tech questions that range from novice to advanced. I'm sure there are people that post here that know the answer. Timing is critical to get the answers to tougher questions.

Well when I did my engine Tranny swap on my 96, I wanted to swap the tremec 3650 also but tranny mount didn't fit correctly, my mechanic was able to fabricate it a little bit and make it fit but it sat at a different angle which caused my sportline lowered stang's driveshaft to rub on the e-brake bracket a lot so I decided to go back to the T45 insteading of trying to fix the bracket for the Tremec.

So your answer is yes, the tranny brackets are different for the 01 and up tremec's. not sure if the 96-98's are different from the 99-00's though.

thanx for the replies guys, i ended up getting a mount fabbed up of solid steel. it looks really neat and has held up well, but im scared to get on it now cause i was told that solid steel allows for no deflection like the original rubber mount does so i could end up cracking the bellhousing or wearing out u-joints quicker due to hard launching. ive done a couple hard launches and power shifts, and it seems to be ok, but if something eventually does break i guess ill know why !
