is there a oil pump-to-block gasket?

I went to my local ford dealer and asked for a oil pump to block gasket (among other things) and I was told that it didn't show one, therfore it didn't use a gasket. Is this correct?

No, there is a gasket for that. Imagine mounting metal to metal and having pressurized oil pushed through it, of course it needs a gasket, and without you could lose oil pressure.

yah as weird as it seems because you wouldnt think u would need a gasket to keep oil from oil but yes there is one go buy it for 1.00 at autozone

I have never run one. Never been a problem. You're talking about two machined flat surfaces.

Bottom line, it is not required but you should do whatever makes you sleep better at night.

I guess heads, blocks and intakes are machined surfaces too.

chebby dosnt use em either and also if the 5.0 with manifolds in the late 80's and early 90's didnt use exhaust manifold gaskets

I had an old International Loadstar 1600 with a 345cui, I changed the oil filter bracket and it didn't take a gasket either. I was surprised. It doesn't leak though.

I did spray both sides with gasket sealant though, to kind of seal up imperfections between the surfaces. The bracket I used was a used one.

You probubly wont be able to get the gasket by its self. May have to spend a few bucks and get an oil pan gasket set.

I have only seen them come in oil pan sets and with a new oil pump.

since the oil pump to block is contained inside the oil pan, you don't need to worry about it leaking because it is contained.

My 93 GT did have one when I took it apart, and the new oil pump had one with it. Bought the car new, so it did come with one from the factory.

its in the pan but not submerged in oil so you wouldnt want the pump to block connection to be unsealed imo.

o yeah a new pump comes with 2 gaskets pickup to pump and pump to block. just bought one the other day. my car looks stock internally but has a double roller timing chain. was that stock also?

yes, the double roller is stock.

My car came without one from the factory. As I said before and I was being non sarcastic, if you can't sleep at night then use the gasket otherwise it is completely not needed.

Thanks for the replys, guys. I will do the gasket (and I will sleep better at night). I just don't trust the parts counter guys, especially with something as critical as my oiling system.

I just got my M-6600-M50 production oil pump and it only came with 1 gasket. It looks the same as the gasket I got from the dealer for the pickup. It will fit the 3 holes fine, but it doesn't cover the entire mating surface.

After some thought, I think that I will NOT run a gasket. I think that the pump will be more stable against the block without the gasket. This may be a non-issue, though. Of course potential leaking is not a concern.

Thats my 2 cents. Thanks to everyone for their input.
