Is there any difference in look, feel, or weight between a 17x8 and 17x9?

Some wheels sell with 17x9 back and 17x8 front...Any ideas?

Well, you can toss on meatier tires on the rears if the backs are wider with the 9 inch...

I dunno, but I got 275/40s on the rear
if i upped my width on the rears, i could probably push like a 315/35
whereas you SHOULDN'T do that in the front.

I would say you will see a $ increase for tires with wider wheels. You will feel a traction difference with the wider tires and also they just look much nicer especially from behind the car with big, fat wide-ass tires on it.

deep dish 17x10.5 w/ a 315/35 are what i run in the back--hawt1!!

Wider wheels and tires:

1. fill our big wheel openning
2. makes the car look tighter -check out those BMWs
3. Just plain looks good

I have 275/40x17 all around on a completely stock suspension. I have had no problems with the rear tires and the fronts only rub a little on the swaybar at wheel lock. So, if you use 17x9's with the same backspacing as what the Steeda wheels have, you should be all set.

I have 275/40x17 all around on a completely stock suspension. I have had no problems with the rear tires and the fronts only rub a little on the swaybar at wheel lock. So, if you use 17x9's with the same backspacing as what the Steeda wheels have, you should be all set.

I've never had any rubbing issues/traction problems with 275/40s on the rear, ever. Like he said though, be careful with the rubbing on the fronts. 275/40 will probably wear off the inner tire wall of your rubber sooner than it should. Ideally you'd like to get a minimal of 2 years out of tires if you're nice to them. Anticipate a swap about every year or so.

Stock suspension shouldn't have any bearing on traction so long as your suspension's still in good shape. My offset I think changed a bit. If you want, I can go hunt around to see what it was set at.

I'm looking at the same thing for my fourth-gen Camaro. Since this is my daily driver with V6 engine, I am keeping the fronts the same width as OEM to avoid adding steering effort in turns. I am adding an inch to the rears to combat wheel slip.

Like others have said, I think the look of wide tires on the back is great.

Sure, you are gonna have more weight with a larger wheel
and
You'll take a double hit since you will be using a larger tire

With the focus on a Street Application

Increased diameter of wheel and tire will hurt your acceleration

So you see, one could suffer a small amount of performance
when you add up the loss from all three hits

On the other hand .....
Race wheels/tires are light weight
but
They are not durable enough for street use

As for traction ..........

I read an article and the jest of it was ......
Compound of tire was more effective than width of tire

Our cars PLOW so much we need all the tire we can get in the front.. Run 17x9's with 275/40/17.. You could run a 295/35/17 on the rear with the 17x9 or go wider.. Personally, I would run 10.5's out back. 17" tires are cheap anyway..
