Its about that time again, 94400 miles on the stock clutch and she just started to squeak and chatter a bit when I romp on it above 4K. I found a King Cobra kit on GEFRacing.com for 200 dollars shipped and that includes the new clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing.

This is what I want to spend, is there anything out there that costs (a little) more and is significantly better?

thanks guys,

Adam

King Cobra is a good clutch. I spent 299 on my Spec Stage II and i dont regret the decision.

I just dropped $320 on a complete custom clutch setup for my car from Walt at Pro Motion in FL. It's a good idea to do ALL the homewrok you can when choosing a clutch... I've been looking for over 3 months, but this clutch should hold more than my block, and it will have no more pedal effort than the motorsport HD than I have run in the past. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and call D&D and ask to speak with Don Walsh Sr. and ask him his thoughts on the king cobra versus and how it compares to the normal HD unit... I doubt you'll buy the king cobra after that conversation... he designed it BTW.

Do NOT buy a spec stage 3 whatever you do.

whats wrong with the Spec 3 ? My friend chris just put one in his Turbo charged 91 LX and he really likes it. says the pedal pressure is not that bad either. I have a Spec II and Im happy with it.

Interesting info: On Paul's (killercanary's) advice I called up Don Walsh Sr. at D and D Performance. He's a real nice guy and didn't mind giving me 10 minutes which guarantees that I'm giving him my business.

Anyway, he designed both the Ford Motorsport Heavy Duty clutch and the Ford Motorsport King Cobra clutch back in the 80s when he worked for SVO. He said that they have "identical clamping specs." The only difference is that the HD clutch has a "much stronger plate" while the King Cobra takes about 5 pounds less pressure to depress. Also, the King Cobra costs about 30 dollars more.

Needless to say I'm going with a FMS HD clutch. As I am a young buck I own't have the problem with the 5 extra pounds of pressure needed.

Also, I'm going to plug www.ddperformance.com, its not often that you can get on the phone with the guy who was the principle engineer on the product you want.

thanks Paul, I guess you could say I owe you thirty bucks.
