i am going to be re-building my 2.3l tc motor and this is what i was thinking about doing. stock block...acid diped, new freeze plugs, bored .040 over.
weisco forged turbo pistons with 8:1 cr.
2.3l crower sportsman rods 5.5"
and i think i'm going to use the stock crank...maybe get it balanced.
this is so far what i am thinking about doing. but not sure how it would be for an everyday driver that see's track use. if anyone has anything to recomend...please do so. i'm trying to get my 4 pot around 300 hp...and this is the start. anyones input will be appreicated. thanks

Yah, the HP isn't going to come from displacement. Although a stroker would give a slight more torque.
If the bore is fine leave it.
Spend some money on the head or a new head and turbo, give it gas and go.

I agree with 140cilx. .040" is the maximum bore for the 2.3L, after that you pitch it. You may want to look into using one of the newer blocks because they have smaller main bearings. The smaller the bearing, the less drag on the rotating assemble. See if you can find .010, .020, or .030 over pistons. I would also look into getting 5.7" rods. The longer the rod the more time the piston spends at TDC.

the block dosen't require .040 overbore...thats what i just plan to do. and yes i can find .040 pistons....even .060 pistons. what about this...stock crank, either 5.5" rods or stock....if you say they can handle over 300...cuz thats what i want to be at..right arouhd 300 hp. and the get .030 pistons(forged weiscos) any more help??

one more thing...i do want to get some head work done ...i have a guy in town that says he'd do it for $350. but he also says theres no point to porting heads on a daily driven car. he said that you wouldn't notice a difference?? is that true.....i'll see some track use but mostly a daily driven car.

I don't think you've mentioned what turbo you are going to be running.?

I know you are starting with the block but most of your power will come from turbo selection and how that coincides with your engine build.

You can get pretty decent power with a stock block and good turbo, header exhaust, fuel tuning.

Don't take this the wrong way but that is an absolutely HORRIBLE idea. There is NO reason to overbore something any farther than is HAS to be. If it doesn't need to be bored at all, DON'T. You will NOT gain power from boring it out.

Just a little sidenote...people have blown holes in the piston walls from boring them .030 or more. They just get too thin to handle the pressure of a turbo.

A stock turbo motor with 200,000 miles on it will handle 300hp.

The stock turbo (T3) will BARELY sqeak out 300rwhp.

The stock injectors will BARELY squeak out 300rwhp.

Dude, look on the web for a man...Joe Morgan and his poisonous Pinto. You will be surprised at what a 4-pot turbo can do. I have based much of my build-up and ideas on his cars abilities. With a rock stock bottom end!

Anyone know where to find info on the Joe's Turbo-bomb. It was in magazine a few years ago too.

His Pinto is on there though...and his Focus (with a 2.3T based engine).

the turbo is a stock t3. i'm picking up my motor tonight...so whenever i get it torn apart...then i think i will figure out everything from there. i'm still learning so anything ya'll have to say...good or bad...will be a help..thanks again.
