Is this a way to sneak past emissions testing?

I was in one of the other forums talkin about how to get past emissions w/o cats and Ruzman brought up this idea

"Purchase a Diablosport Tuner. You can turn your O2 sensors off through your OBD-II and pass the sniffer like that. I don't have an O/R pipe, but I have a Bassani w/ Bassani cats and my SES kept comming on even after clearing the DTC. So with the Diablosport I was able to just turn the damn O2 sensors off and passed the inspection.

Will this work? i thought they did the sniffer at the tips of your exhaust which doesnt really matter if your O2's are working or not i guess. If im in the wrong here please correct me. And the reason why i ask this question is i have an 89 notch the is pretty stripped down and want to beable to drive her on the street durring nice days but dont want to have to put on a catted pipe for inspection(im a lazy ass when it comes to this stuff)

That will only work with OBDII cars 1996+ because they don't actually use the sniffer, they check the computer because it's suposed to tell instead. I know a few buddies with 96+ cars who have thier computers programmed to not display DTC's. They pull up cam loping, exaust watering your eyes and pass. They suck.

diabling the o2's (even if you could on obd I cars) will only send the comp into default mode, and ADD FUEL! thus raising your HC emmisions..........


sorry man.

run 15-20 alcohol in the tank..........and cross your fingers.

15-20 alcohol?? is that a fuel addative? clue me in on this stuff

I read on a post a while back that a guy unplugged an injector so one cylinder was only pumping air (seems to me the O2s would sense the lean condition and add more fuel) and another guy said he hooked up his smog pump so it was constantly pumping air into the exhaust (again, Id think the O2s would try to correct it by adding more fuel) . Dont remember if they said it actually worked or if they were just ideas. At the end of the day if the station does a visual youll still fail no matter what.

umm...don't smog pumps do that from the factory *sarcasm

I passed my '84 2.8L Ranger two days ago by using some additives made by Bardahl. The previous failure had HC at 8.3 on a 6.0 limit, and CO was 59.8 on a 55.0 limit. I changed the oil and added the oil thickener, then put the fuel additive into 3/4 tank of fuel, ran it for half a tank, and took it in. Truck blew a 4.2 HC on the 6.0 limit, and 23.0 CO on the 55.0 limit. Mechanically, I did nothing but clean the K&N and change the oil, and of course add the additives, and the truck still doesn't run all that great. The Bardahl fuel stuff has a money-back guarantee that your car will pass emissions (assuming stock, cats, smog pump). Might be worth a try.

The air that is being pumped passes through the cats, which are located after the o2 sensors anyway...

i'd bet a lot of money that you cant pass a smog test that actually tests emissions at the tail pipes without cats, i put my old car on the smog machine without cats and it was ridiculously off, just put the stock one back on when you smog it, drive straight home and put your aftermarket one back on!

Wht93, the thermactor system either puts air into the heads, dumps it to atmosphere or puts it downstream depending on conditions. Why dont you go take your car off some sweet jumps.

the reason i dont put a cat'ed pipe on my car even for the emissions test is that the car will be driven well under 5000 miles so i dont want to have to put a catted h-pipe on if i dont have to(it would waste my time) so id rather try some other way first. If i fail once what happenes would i get a warning?? or a fine?
