sooo... i got my exhaust done last summer by the local exhaust shop here in mansfield, oh (custom exhaust) and when they did it they removed my... egr tube?? which comes out of the air compressor on the left side of the motor? if im correct...:shrug: but correct me if im wrong... the problem is this hole where that tube was seems to be as loud if not louder than my exhaust pushing out air when i get off the throttle. i would like to eliminate this. would it be logical to buy a shorter belt and route around the pulley that is running this "air compressor"??? lol sorry guys im a noob. but thanks for any help in advance...

Yes its possible. But I believe if I remember correctly by removing your EGR you might run into some pinging problems unless you tune for it.

Sounds like they messed with the air tube, underneath? the egr tube connects from the header to the valve itself, most shops have air tube repair kits that can be welded in, if that is the case. If emissions arent a concern then you could eliminate the smog (air) pump or run a shorter belt.

hopefully you are wrong and only confused about what they did :D , or they really screwed up your emissions equipment. :eek:

as already said, the egr tube is a metal tube that gos from your exhaust header up to your EGR valve that mounts on your upper intake manifold.

the smog pump (air compressor) is below the alternator on the passenger side of the engine. There should be a rubber hose connected to the back of it. this rubber hose should have a couple valves on it and y off heading towards the back of the engine.

If you need to pass emissions where you live these things need to be properly repaired. If you dont need to pass emissions take all of the unecesary equipment off and cap off any open holes. :nice:

okay... from the sounds of it it is not my egr. it is the smog pump which is below the alternator. and there was a metal tube that was routed out of the front of it and into the exhaust after the headers. so now there is just a hole there and it just sits there and blows out air....

At this point if you had work done by a shop Id go back and ask them what they did with the thermactor tube. They obviously took it off. If theyre a custom shop they should be able to fabricate something if they dont have the original. Either way they have to remedy the situation since they removed it in the first place.

At the shops I used to work for we would at a minimum warranty stuff for at least a year, I would try to get them to fix what they messed up, as long as you have your receipt, as a consumer you have a right to have it fixed,correctly, if I were running that exhaust shop(after I replaced the shmuck predessor) I would fix you up instead of risk further bad reputation in the neighborhood.

Couple questions... were you aware of the noise after they did the work... or only down the road? Because it wouldnt be the first time a thermactor tube rotted out and fell off. As far as bringing it back, I skimmed through your first message and wasnt aware of the time that had passed. Youre not likely to get much help from them other than possibly them customizing something to work for you. Ive seen people use a good length of heat resistant tubing and just mate it between the thermactor and the exhaust. If you want to replace it with the stock metal tubing, you could try Mustang Parts Specialties www.mpssalvage.com

Poboy, I agree with you that most things would be warrantied for a year, but this is seeming less likely a case for that. Maybe if the noise was noticed a couple weeks after and then brought back. But last summer? Seems a bit lengthy and theyll likely ask why it wasnt returned sooner. And more so, unless they did something specific to the thermactor tube other than reconnect it to the new setup theyre likely not to get involved. And if you did notice the noise after they did the work why did you wait till the next winter?? Theyre likely to only cover any problems with whatever they installed, not related components. It seems this would have been something that should have been picked up on right away.

If they custom made an H pipe or something like that and they fabbed up a tube to connect to the H pipe and it recently broke/rotted away then its on them I say.But I cant see this guy driving around for a year with an obvious problem and just now wanting to complain about it. Take the car back to the shop, with your receipt, be cool about it and see what they do for you, like I said if it's 10 -15 minutes to weld a piece of air tubing in to make the guy happy I would personally do it, it is just good biz, especially if you got a waiting room full of people/customers. On the other hand if they want to be Di#k$ about it they seem to be the last ones to have worked on the Emissions systems on the car and there is a hefty fine for" removing the EGR tube" as they told him. Times and buisness are hard enough for most shops, I would try to work with this customer the best way possible.

okay.. so i just thought about it and im prety sure they gave me the tube back when they gave me my stock tubing back. i didn't think anything of it and just figured they knew what they were doing. but as time went on the noise just kept progresively bugging me more. but im almost positive i still have the tube and it did not rot out it was clearly removed. i had them route my exhaust out in front of my tires because thats what i wanted. and im almost positive this is the smog pump tube... because as it has been described to me it is a metal tube that comes out of the front of the air compressor (below the alternator) and routes into the exhaust line after the headers
