Is this normal?

Since i started using Amsoil synthetic 10w40 i have been burining 1/2quart for about every 1000miles. i checked for leaks and didnt find a drop. Should i be concerned? I used to use mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 and burned about 1quart to 3000-4000 miles.

it's thinner so it might be burned more when it blows by faster

You might have bad rings, try to switch back to regular oil to see if the problem goes away.

some synthetics burn more than others - some have more PAE's than others, etc.

i think the obvious choice would be to go back to M1

BTW, the 10W-40 he runs now is 'thicker' than the 10W-30 he ran before.

Thanks guys ill try switching back to mobil 1 synthetic and see if i still burn oil.
