when i was 15 1/2 i bought a new 10-speed and rode it to school, my part-time job, and the comic book store. Save the 458/month insurance and pay cash for a 2010 gt in 5 yrs. your insurance will be cheaper too.

Anyone (incluing your dad) over 18 can enter into a contract and finance a vehicle, your dad may be able to add you as a secondary driver. Check the online insurance websites to confirm this quickly. I made 70k last year and it hurts paying a mortgage, car note, gas/maintenaince/oil chg, insurance, registration, etc. How are you going to do this??? I guess if I didn't pay 2400/month house note, i'd be ok with it too! If my wife didn't work, I wouldn't be paying cash for my fully loaded gt in Jan.

Well if your looking at a GT, figure $400-$500 a month for the car payments, insurance, depending on your Dad's age, and you being added as an extra driver $1,000 for 6 months, *MAYBE*. The car payment will probably be in the $400-$500 range as I mentioned.

Anyway, perhaps a brand new '05 is a bit cost prohibitive for a 16 year old......yet I wish you all the best in obtaining what you strive to achieve. To the most dedicated of those go the richest of spoils.

Bolting a 7 psi blower to a 96 cobra can net you a crazy 425+ HP for $15,000 total and the cars do quite well Vs. most challengers (place your choice of Rice/Nazi Rocket, Bow Tie, Stag Head, Etc. contenders here). Granted, don't push the car too hard (kablooey).

Not for nothing, but you should start off with a V6 like i did. The car is not TO fast for you to learn on and you wont have the complete option of trying to kill yourself. I was 16 then, im 19 now almost 20 and ready to move on with the 2005 GT. I know you dont want to hear this, but take it from me start off with a v6. MY family bought it brand new (2002) for me and its in showroom condition as of today. Now that i know i can take care of a car and im aware of the butwipes on the road, i know im ready for a GT. My parents are helping me with the 2005, i dont ask for anything and im not spoiled, its just my passion is cars and they know that and since im a good kid (yea i am really hah) they are always willing to help me out on stuff like this.

Adam, look around they are out there, get yourself a nice late 80's early 90's GT, do the work on it yourself to learn about cars and save money. Spend enough money to find one in decent shape but not too much, in case you get in an accident you will get close to what you put in it back in $$$$. Put it in your parents name if they're cool with it to save on insurance. You'll have a blast and you won't be strapped for money, enjoy yourself now with as minimal responsability as needed, you will be making payments for the rest of your life. Relax, have fun with this car then in a few years if your making some good money or after college then worry about getting a new stang, then you will look back and think damn im glad i didnt buy that 05 look at the 09's there bad ass. This sounds familiar. When I was 15 1/2 I fell in love with a particular 1970 Mach 1. I saw it on the street about 6 months before my 16th birthday and I knew I would never be happy without it. As luck would have it, it went up for sale right around my birthday (within days) so I was able to (with my father's help, of course) buy it immediatly. Having the opportunity to drive that machine contributed to the most glorious week of my life, because that's how long it took me to plow it into an oak tree! I have been thinking about that car practically daily (not really an obsession ) for the last 18 years! I also carry around a few physical scars as well and I've been beating myself up for 18 years over it.

As a side note, the former owner of the car came around looking buy it back in its wrecked state (practically unrepairable) just a few days after my dad had it hauled away. Nobody can tell me the're just metal.

I was in your boat about 6 years ago. I knew i was not gonna get a new car, nor did i want one. I wanted a 87-93 5.0. For three months we looked, basically at ever 5.0 in the auto trader. i figured i was not gonna get one. turned 16, and ended up getting a 87 marquis with Fi 5.0. After 2 perfect months of driving, (i had already been driving everyday since i turned 15 with my parents), my dad showed up wit a red 93 aod gt. I thought 97k was a alot when we got it. I still have it till this day closing in on 200k with the only tghe starter, and alternator being replaced. Besides that, regular maintenance and it does not matter how many miles these cars have, as long as they are just given normal maintanence.

Respect the car, and learn your limits, go to a performance driving school, or do solo2 autox. I did that for a full season in each of my mustangs, i feel it is one of the best ways to learn to drive AND race. Do not concern yourself with a new car and payments at this age. You will have plenty of fun in a 5.0, just dont make the mistake i made and choose an automatic.

Use your local autotrader, ask lots of questions and drive every car. I have personally got 2 stangs form there and my family has got over 5 cars from the trader. Call all the ones that interest you, go with a parent and drive em all and check them over and over. Our two 5.0s have been awesome and my saleen, while troublesome at times was a damn bargain that i found after calling the guy when he no price listed.

Be safe, do it the right way, I am 21 and have never had a ticket in my life. I have my fair share of fun out there quite often, but if you take things slowly, you will b fine. Best of luck man

I just don't see it happening. At 16, i doubt you could cover the note, much less the insurance + gas.
