billison,

Can you micrometer or caliper the shafts of those two gears? If they are different, let me know if the larger one went into your block OK. I am having a biznatch of a time putting a wider-shaft, HEI-distributor (modified with a Pertronix and custom advance) into my 1986 block where I previously had a narrower-shaft, pre-HEI (1978) dizzy. The freakin' housings were different sizes, by almost 1/16", enough that the HEI distributor wouldn't even go through the 1.5" hole in the block. I spent a good part of this afternoon turning it on a lathe.

Now it feels like it's bottoming out on the hole where the dizzy shaft goes in to catch the oil pump shaft; at this point I'm wondering if the wider dizzy will even fit.

FWIW, the dizzy on the left might be a 351; my understanding is, they have a longer shaft to accomodate the 351's taller deck height but they will fit most (Ford says "all" :bang: ) 302 / 289 / 5.0 blocks.
